  1. Thank you for another great chapter. I love this story and I’m glad to see you’re still working on this project. Was getting a little worried there with the way it’s slowed down off and on over the last month. Is it about time for you to take a break, maybe a vacation, even if it’s just from the project and recharge? I don’t want to see you burn out and leave us (or more specifically, me) hanging.

Thanks again, the work is appreciated.

    Bagelson, you are my hero!

    • This is exactly what i was thinking from the time i saw that order.

Xiao Wu will most likely not admit defeat easily and so whoever wins against her will most likely have to beat her in a fight, meaning when Tang San steps on stage that guy is as good as finished.

      • He will probably make a display of his abilities which forces the enemies to give up out of fear.
        P.S. Thanks for the translation

  3. Thank you for the chapter! That cliff hanger though! In a way I kind of want Xiao Wu to get hurt, like prick her finger on a thorn or something, so Tang San will enter rage mode and just destroy everyone from the Balak Kingdom team. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Tyrant Tang.

    • I love how every old person Tang San meets pretty much tries to throw their daughters or granddaughters at Tang, and he just passes on all of them. He truly has a great hidden potential.

  4. “Wild sunflowers were capable of releasing an extraordinary scent, making people lose fighting capability, a kind of peculiar mental poison. And Sunflowers were furthermore hard as iron.”

I can confirm this. The last time I walked through a field of sunflowers, I was drained of all my fighting spirit. Though, this may have had something to do from the horrific bleeding that comes with wading through a field of iron-hard flowers (flower petals make for very effective blades when they’re as hard as iron).

    My thanks to you, Bagelson.

  5. Heh heh heh. Erlong, you’re the best. >:D —–“Looking to die?”
Man i just love when OP characters bring out the predator and intimidate others. Either that or nice people who make a 180 and completely turn out to be a god of destruction when someone makes them mad (*cough* Tang San). Both are just great. >:D

Second fav sentence of this chapter: “Under the effect of Liu Erlong’s formidably oppressive strength, the Balak Academy students all screeched to a halt practically in the same instant,”
Meanwhile, Liu Erlong privately thinks ‘I’m not letting you stupid runts touch one hair on Xiao Wu’s head. So you better BEAT IT or and we’ll see if any of you can survive ME.’

Thanks for the chapter the last line makes me wonder if Tang is incoming but even in a Flower battle the King will not be defeated that easily else Tang

That said, I kinda wish Tang went first and just kicked 7 peoples ass like nothing, ya know?

Woulda been cooler if he had a 100,000 year ring at the time too…

Did i miss something? When did their personalities change?
    1. Why is concern for the enemy now rewarded with a potentially broken spine, rib cage, jaw and skull as well as damaged organs. I remember when concern got you mercy.
    2. Since when does Tang condon blatant cheating? Does he not think people will wonder why Xaio has 4 abilities and only 3 rings, if they don’t i would be very surprised that 10,000 imperial knight are all idiots.

    • Nobody seems to question that Tang San has multiple elemental resistances, OP close combat techniques and suddenly spider legs growing out of his back. To be fair seeing a contestant being immune to a relativly low grade poison isn´t that surprising.

      Like

      • The resistance can be put as an effect on his body due to the abilities of the spirits from his spirit rings. unless they are told what his spirit rings are from they can only guess. The spider legs are spirit bones which can come with a spirit ring(allowed by the rules as removal can result in death).

    • 1. Whose personality? I can’t remember Xiao Wu being very concerned about enemies.
      2. To be fair, the flower is permanently bound to Xiao Wu, and only works in specific situations. In that sense it really isn’t any different from a spirit bone.

          4) enemy was stronger, that’s why she went all out.

    • yeah that last fight has a bitter aftertaste for me. As that is clearly “cheating” had she eaten the Immortal Treasure it would be fused with her so there would be no problem with the rules but here she is using something like a weapon … so yeah kinda feels bad

      Liked by 1 person

        • well a spirit bone is not only bound to you until death (that immortal treasure seems to be the same in that regard) but it is also fused to your body.

well if i had made the competion rules i would have also disallowed spriti bones any way 😛

          • after she dropped blood on it, when tang san distributed all the immortal treasures to Shrek’s Seven.

Tang San also states in this chapter “… the Yearning Heartbroken Red’s position among flowers really is too high, after fusing with Xiao Wu’s blood, it has already formed a certain connection with her.” thats what i meant with “bound”

            Like

      • I’m sorry I must have missed it where did it state weapons or items are not allowed? Was that in the last chapter and is it a new rule during this part of the competition or was it always there?

        Like

        • that was stated in the beginning of the competition somewhere i can’t recall the exact chapter, though.

no weapons, no killing and that stuff.

          Like

          • Thats the thing the no killing I remember but I thought not using weapons was something grandmaster told him but I can’t find it.
If this is the case there might be a real problem when they face heaven dou academys first team later on since to defeat their poisoncontroller as far as I remember Tang San had to use items to disperse her poison fog.

            Like

            • As I said after rereading the beginning I can’t find where the no weapon rule is given. Since for Tang San to give his full shock and awe value the possibility of using his weapons is a necessity I’m actually still surprised by it. In this kind of story having the hero shine in the most pressing moments seems like one of the most charming points.
I thought throughout the entiry preliminary round that him not using his hidden weapons was mostly due to the fact that revealing them would show every watching person and thus weakening their prospects for the main round and maybe even after but not due to a rule.
If it is as you said a rule I maintain that it is arbitrary. Why would the use of unarmed martial arts for example be better than the use of a staff to give the fighters more options.
Regardless even if the use of weapons is banned Xiao Wus flower would hardly count. The sturdiness was showcased in an earlier fight if I recall correctly. In that case it would be a question of where to draw the line.
If the fight was supposed to be entirely about the fighters skills I could back you but the Spirit Halls machinations make me support anything that gives their opponents a shot.

            • It was subtle when they said it, but it was stated as something along the lines of ‘unlike in the spirit arena, outside tools aren’t allowed.’ It also said even though Tang couldn’t use the things contained in his moonlight bridge belt, he was still wearing it because it felt more natural to him. The tournament is less about who can beat who in an all out fight and more about showing off the spirits of the most promising spirit masters from that generation which is why unlike in the spirit arena, tools and weapons aren’t allowed to be used in it. It defeats the purpose of the tournament where first is showing off the next generation and second being the entertainment aspect of watching the fights.

      • Agreed.. that was kinda nonsense. I was rather displeased reading it this morning. Almost hate to say it, but I really hope the situational luck ends soon, cause most of these fights are starting to be decided almost entirely by luck. :/

        Like

        • OK I can understand that sentiment but situational luck is one of the cornerstones of stories like this.
The uberpowerful skill lost since times immemorial being learned by the MC, the inexplicably high growth rate of skills learned by him or the retaining of memories of past lifes as well as some other advantages are often the edge given to the MCs in this kind of stories. And we cheer for them because it can be fun seeing the powerful guy you cheer for stomp some evil/annoying antagonists.
If you liked stories in which the “hero” was a kinda weak never really growing kid there’s any number of fantasy stories out there that would fill that craving.
On the other hand yes I can understand what you mean. It seems a bit like a deus ex machina. Still if so much time is spend on saying the immortal treasures are incredibly rare and powerful I’m willing to accept it.

          • Some luck is A cornerstone. The past 30 chapters have been more than just a cornerstone being luck. It’s been the whole foundation and structure of luck with everything they’ve worked hard to obtain being the extra furnishing. Stories like these normally don’t drown every other paragraph as look at how lucky we are and how amazing these things we found are. And yes, it’s not the luck that bothers me. It’s how these immortal treasures have become an infinite scapegoat out of every single situation they find themselves in. the ingenuity, perseverance, and luck all rolling into one with teamwork and trust in each other was amazing.. but the past 30 chapters haven’t been about that at all, the story is no longer about Tang-san and the other devils anymore, it’s about the immortal treasures.. they’re brought up an overbearing number of times each chapter, multiple paragraph ranting about how wonderful they are almost each time. Looked like it was going to stop after the ice academy, but here we are again.. a situation just perfect for one of the flowers to shove how amazing it is down our throats instead of how incredible the shrek seven devils are.

            • Well yeah i wouldn’t say its that extreme of an downer for me, but yeah.

I have no problem with the situation with the Fire/Ice acadamys and Tang San’s immortal treasures as for them it was always clearly stated that they would make him immune to fire and ice and they did nothing unexpected.
But Xiao Wu’s immortal treasure seems to become the “everything seems futile, well let me just intervene for a bit”-solution.

yeah well i still realy realy like that LN, and as that didn’t happen so many times til now i can live with it. 🙂

            • The repetition of the importance and rarity of the immortal treasures is more of a Chinese writing style than anything else I believe. There’s no real importance behind it – they just really like repeating certain phrases for emphasis. Doesn’t really translate well to English, but.
