  1. I’m pretty sure Grandmaster went to get his dad, and its looking like his presence will be very necessary.

I wonder if the Spirit Hall will maintain appearances by giving them the spirit bones when they win?

It may be true that the Spirit Hall has more spirit masters, but Tang San has the backing of 5 of the ten Title Doulou (maybe more if my suspicions about Dai Mubai are correct). I think that if he wanted to crush the Spirit Hall, it wouldn’t be impossible to do, they’d just have to overstep the line enough to make his allies willing to act against them.

    • Thanks for the chapter.

I think they’ll have to give the spirit bones because of all the witnesses, from both empires and with members of royal families. After all, a spirit bone which has not fused can reappear from a death corpse.

But I think that Spirit Hall has more Title Douluo and more spirit masters than everyone think. After all, there aren’t anymore many strong beasts in the forests. And remember the first chapters : when Tang San was reconized as a spirit master, the school’s dean tried to send him to Spirit Hall. How many did geniuses leave their kingdom to Spirit Hall before to be noticed by autorities ?

      • The Spirit Hall forces must be larger than anyone would guess, how else could they be so cocky? And if I were the 7 Devils I’d publicly hand over those spirit bones to Ning Feng Zhi for save keeping until they’re strong enough to defend themselves. Like Bilbo said, keeping up appearances is easy. Benevolently handing over the spirit bones and afterwards retrieving them from the cooling corpses of their owners should be a simple task for Spirit Hall. After all, the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile clan can’t babysit the whole Shrek team forever, they’re about to graduate as well (according to what Grandmaster and Flender said in previous chapters).

      • Frankly Im curious why we havent heard of anyone besides Spirit Hall performing the spirit awakening ceremony? They cant have a monopoly over it because then they would already be ruling the world. Youd think that all of the large schools and empires would like to be the first to discover and recruit (or even quietly dispose of) promising young spirit masters.

Where does Spirit hall get all its wealth anyway? Auction fees and arena tickets cant be enough to just throw gold at young spirit masters like they are doing. Or is gold really really abundant in that world (Tang-san and his million gold pieces.)?

        • What really good questions, nipi ! The value of gold stay in his rarity. So Spirit Hall’s income should come from others ways. Last week, I thought about the Knight templars (their order during 12th and 13th centuries). They earned money from the protection they gave to travelers (between Europ and Jerusalem), from the lands they owned (gifts and legacies) and as bankers. I think Spirit Hall’s income could be the same.

      • I think I know what you think and a guess which turn out correct doesn’t count as spoil(at least for me).
Grand Master probably went to Spirit Hall to meet ‘a significant someone’ there who probably again as important as supreme Pontiff.
This guess based from when Lui Erlong mentioned ‘a bitch’ who had enough influence to gave GM a whatever it called ‘badass seal’.

    • I think grandmaster is also visiting his other female acquaintance who has an exceedingly high position in spirit hall (maybe even the supreme pontiff) that’ why erlong was so grumpy on this journey..

And I’m also betting a couple other stuff about the Supreme Pontiff and the fact that Spirit Hall knows more about twin spirits that they’re letting on, based on previous comments between Flender and Grandmaster

You guys saying that verslints comments are spoilers firstly imply that you read the spoiler section which is completly ok btw and secondly and here more importantly turn anything that was phrased as a supposition into an actual spoiler regardless of if it was one or simply very well divined from hints in the story.

As to what I consider a spoiler. If it is only your deductions and projections that turn out out to be spot on later then no it isn’t a spoiler. For if that was the case any comments here that diverge from saying only thanks into i.e
how cool would it be if next chapter…
what do you think that char meant with…
the technique was interesting do you think he could improve it by…
and many more would have to be considered spoilers if they even had the remotest chance of comming true. And in that case what would we have to talk about here?

  9. Brilliant, thanks a lot !

Quite a ride… not even close to the way I thought this crisis may end (besides Dai Mubai’s plain rejection to A$$ Douluo) 😉

Too bad Tang San was unable to deliver Yama’s Invitation on either Douluos (that would have been really cool… as everybody watch breathlessly a so call supreme “existence” dissolve into nothingness by Little San… and with a “hidden weapon” which Spirit Masters disregard as below any possible threat to them… except for Dugu Bo and Sherk Seven Devils of course… the psichological damage would have been so huge that maybe all the academies students may have run for the hills with the bandits as well and gave up on the tournament right there lol). Another really cool alternative, may have been if all bandits (including both Douluos) would have been wipe out and Spirit Hall never knew how they fail… a complete “fear strike”.

I hope Spirit Hall refuse to give the spirit bones to the Shrek Seven Devils once they win the tournament and so the they show their true colors, and then Tang San and the rest of the gang go on and steal them as just reward… guess that would be the proper scenario for an open war that Uncle Ning fear is to come.

Once more, thanks a lot for this great light novel translation!

Because even if tang san’s own power isn’t strong enough to bring out the full power of yama’s invitation against a titled duoluo, he has the ability to absorb the energy of others.

  23. Wow, Spirit Hall…. I don’t blame them for trying to kill Tang San, but that didn’t go the way I wanted…. why couldn’t that Title Doulou get to know Tang San dammit… they both have a lotta stuff in common….

That said, Dugu Bo, you hit me right in the Kokoro…. and this is a Chinese novel….

And now I really won’t blame Spirit Hall for trying to destroy the Empire… why would the stronger organization bow to the weaker……

    Thank You for the translation…

    Like

    • I’m with you in understanding why they want to kill Tang San though I believe the events of this chapter show it was a rash decision.
The Spirit Hall being the stronger organization might be true but in a world structured like this it can easily change. If they attack the empire and show so much as a single weakness it might well get the second nation to join the fight and not as their allies. The way the spirit hall is using its influence seems to me at least a bit insulting to the rulers and it might very well be more appealing to ally between nations until the greater foe is vanquished. Also don’t forget though the glazed tile school is escorting the prince they are a power in and of themselves as are the other schools all with interests that might make them consider a world without the spirit halls influence preferable.
Sure it is true that the Hall would be able to crush any single opponent but to me it seems there is a delicate balance and acting like the villains which in this case they clearly were doesn’t show them in the best light possible. Also someone willing to so blatantly ignore the convention of the academies that participate in the tournament being under spirit halls and the nations guardianship (at least that is the impression I had) for very clearly selfish reasons can’t be considered a very trustworthy ally.
In all they are the strongest and don’t need to bow but arrogantly commanding might backfire too.

      Like

      • The people of Spirit Hall actually didn’t try to hurt the other academies. And avenging Tang San isn’t worth it to most large groups (except Clear Sky).

And from this chapter, we learn that many of the other schools are subservient to Spirit Hall.

If there was only one title Doulou, then Spirit Hall might have gotten away with it and the other Academies would probably have thanked them.

Tang San is loved by Shrek and in the end, most would move on when he dies.

If Dugo Bo hadn’t been there, then Spirit Hall would have gotten away with what they were about to do.

And most of the Academies or even the Empire don’t actually seem like allies…. it’s just a bunch of rivals… in fact, Rongrong’s dad seems to be an exception this train of thought….

        Like

        • There is a difference between not being attacked and not being killed in an attack. Admittedly the schools you mention are mostly subservient to one group or another though in this case I meant the big ones Clear Sky, Nine Tile etc you know the ones that actually influence politics.

And my argument isn’t mostly about Tang in this case anymore. People take only so much from tyrants at least if they are too open/honest about being tyrants. I admit they are a bunch of rivals but thats the thing about alliances they normally start because there is a stronger enemy that no single partner in the alliance can beat on their own but all actually want gone. And such alliances are not always between friends i.e WWII America and Russia weren’t really friends but fought together anyway.

Its true though that its unlikely since Tang and the Devils ultimatelly beating them on their own after having grown strong enough is more likely in a story like this.

          Like

          • Here is the thing, in the end, SH was only attacking Tang San and would have spared the rest. None of the Schools would have cared if Tang San died…

And Spirit Hall didn’t do anything to really anger all the other schools…

And the majority of powers seem to actually side with Spirit Hall….

Course, our Hero will obviously change the tide of it and probably side with the Empire….

I just hope that author won’t make it a boring black and white thing… I mean, there are basically 2 powers ruling the land, so it’d make sense for them to eventually fight… and they’d initiate once one side gets a clear advantage…

            Like

            • That may not necessarily be true. They reason Spirit Hall is trying to kill Tang is because he is a prodigy, namely one that is stronger than the ones which belong to Spirit Hall. As the Spirit Academies want to foster prodigies in their own students, this could be read as the Spirit Hall not allowing any prodigies outside of the Spirit Hall. That would be extremely threatening to the empires in addition to the Academies.

              Like

              • Right now, Tang San shouldn’t really be at the same level as Spirit Halls group (at least, in Spirit Hall’s eyes)… it seems it might actually be more personal with a vendetta against Clear Sky itself.

That being said… what isn’t true?

                Like

            • The attack despite its outcome in my eyes is already something that should anger the schools. And though it is true that the primary target of this attack was Tang San and his group the rest of the fights can hardly have been without any casualties whatsoever and if those were only injuries (intentional or not). Again its not about Tang in my eyes but the attack itself and the clear assurance that noone can do anything because they are spirit hall. That has to rub some people wrong you know so far my impression of spirit masters is that they are a prideful lot.

I also doubt that they were really only going after this one group of people. There must be other students in here that spirit hall thinks wouldn’t come to them but would be fairly powerful later on they are just not as important atm. Still while they are there and already have the forces gathered why not go for more than one target. Another thing is that the schools siding with spirit hall do not necessarily share their view but do it because the hall is so strong and as I said once enough enemies are made they might change their stance too to get out of that oppression.

Lastly are you sure its 2 powers? As I understood it its SH and 2 Empires plus whatever influence the big schools have. But I guess i could have misinterpreted some of it.

              Like

              • Spirit Hall is what influences most of the big schools, the Empire influences the others.

There are also different empire/kingdoms to, but they aren’t really against spirit hall. But 2 powers seem to rule the same land while I think the other lands are ruled by other groups.

And in the end, it would be to the other schools advantage if Tang San was killed, so if he died and they retreated, a few of the kids would complain for a bit, but in the end, the other schools wouldn’t mind.

Since none of the rest got hurt, they wouldn’t really care in the long run about the attack….

      • In this world, battling strong people is the key to getting stronger yourself, even through defeat. Some dbz saiyan stuff right there. But yea, by running away from this fight, he will do himself more harm than good once he reaches the higher levels of cultivation. He has to face the enemy, only then will he reach the height that was mentioned during the chapter when Oscar was introduced. Look at Motionless Bright KIng, he ran from spirit hall and had been hiding from any attention for so long that it interfered with his growth. What is shrek about? Gaining experience and strength through fighting, Zhao Wuji has not been able to go all out and exchange pointers with many people since.

        • Actually I kinda have to agree with Tyrael, I dont have any problem with him still competing, it’d be boring otherwise, but he has been being reckless, using Clear Skies Hammer in the ranking matches was stupid, he constantly advises Xiao Wu to forfeit if things get dangerous yet he never follows his own advice, he should have fought using just his Blue SIlver Grass and if that wasnt enough then accepted that he was unable to win at the time. But since he’s already screwed up he might as well go all the way right? He knows he needs power to resist Spirit Hall so why not defeat their team and take their spirit bones? That way his side gets stronger while weakening the enemy…. After that though he really needs to take Grandmaster’s advice and disapear for a time, atleast until he’s at a point where he’s added rings to the Clear Sky Hammer, which given his current growth and how fast his father grew should put Tang San in his mid-to-late 20s after a time skip

          Like

          • You have a point about why he might as well coninue the tournament as well as the need to vanish after it.
But I disagree about the hammer and the rings added to it. I’m not too certain at which lvl he can start adding the strongest rings but the entire point of waiting to add rings to the hammer was that he could fill it with only the strongest rings possible. And seeing that as off right now he’s not even anywhere near able to affect one of the duolous I’d imagine after the proposed timeskip he’d come back with powerups on his grass but not yet his hammer.

            Like

          • to me it was because he secretly held the idea that grandmaster would put him into hiding after the event, coupled with the fact that he wanted to give a clean sweep victory (since they couldn’t attain one in the previous competition) that he did care if they knew and just used his 2nd spirit.

            Like

            • about Tang San’s hammer, the goal is to make sure it’s all 10,000 year plus spirit rings and due to the risk in adding so many rings and how hard it is to obtain truly high level spirit rings I could see the first 2 maybe even 3 rings being under 50,000 years, the first 2 probably around 30,000 or so to make sure he doesnt explode from to much power, also remember he’s only 14 or so right now, so if he returned at say 28 he should atleast be a Spirit Sage, maybe even Spirit Doulou, at which he would have up to a 70,000 year ring under normal limits, so he could easily add some 30,000 or so year rings to his hammer, and while his growth might seem absurdly fast(and it is) his father reached title Doulou at age 34 and he didnt have all the random powerups Tang San has had so it’s not out of the quesiton

              Like

          • At this point, I’m kinda waiting to see if Tang Hao will show up. He has always been hiding in the back ground protecting Tang San. I mean he throttled Zhao Wuji with no spirit rings just for bullying Tang San. This will fit your disappearing need cause Tang Hao would then train him in using his hammer more since he relies on it in crucial situations and needs to be able to control the force he couldn’t during his fight with the the Doubleheaded Stormwolf. And we know that it will be secluded due to the secrecy of the Clear Sky techniques. Not to mention he hates Spirit Hall for w/e reason and seeing his son come so close to death should drive him to truly reveal himself to the world again and thrash some Spirit Hall lackeys while he’s at it. I really doubt Tang San stays with Grandmaster, he already admitted there was nothing more for him to teach Tang San. Its time for some answers I hope…

  27. I like how the battle was resolved, as funny as the Flower Doulou continuously stopping the Eagle might have been this makes more sense. After Dugu Bo’s warning about Spirit Hall it makes sense he would follow to keep an eye on Tang San and Ning being there was pretty obvious since he’s the crown prince’s teacher and he’d of want to see the finals himself anyways, especially with his only daughter competing. The only real questions were which of the two Title Doulou Ning had brought with him and if Tang Hao might have been covertly keeping an eye out. Hopefully Ning will get a message to the Clear Sky School and we’ll get to meet some of them at the Finals, with 2 of the 3 great schools guarding Tang San it would be hard for even Spirit Hall to attack

    • I can’t wait to see the clear sky school suddenly coming out of their hole and making a move… and if the three great schoolz truely act as one then I guess the build up tension is just gonna get bigger ..I can assume that Grandmaster is currently searching for Tan Hao
can’t imagine the faces of the other schools when they thought” four title doulou appeared just because of one boy “

      • I’d bet Grandmaster either went to Spirit Hall to talk to his contact there, the one that makes Liu Erlong crazier, or he went to the Blue Dragon School to ask for they’re assistance. Of the two the first is far more likely, especially given Erlong’s reaction to him leaving. While having Tang Hao back would be nice tracking down a Title Doulou cant be easy and there’s no reason Grandmaster would personally need to see to it, they could send Zhao Wuji, or have the Monkey Strength Clan guys search, or even have the Empire or the Seven Treasures School search as both want to get Tang San and Grandmaster indebted to them

  28. I think hes gone to see Supreme Pontiff, some chapters ago Grandmaster talked about her being a duel spirit user and he wanted some advise from her for him + Liu Erlong was pissed and called her a slut when she found out that he had that badge that counts as an elder member or something. Problem though now is she was most likely involve in the attack since they said that the two Title Douluos were practically Supreme Pontiff’s direct subordinate’s, maybe she’s not gonna let him leave after he goes to meet her. Also as for the competition im guessing he wants the spirit bones to power up his teammates and trade his spirit bone if one of them is any good for him that way four members will get an extra spirit bone that would be major help for the future, however I can’t stop thinking that their probably gonna get attacked anyways and some of them might be killed hope not though. Lastly hopefully when he goes into hiding we wont get a ten year time gap because I personally find it a little silly so far in the last what 80+ chapters only 2-3 years have past it would be really annoying that all of a sudden 10 years go by at worst 6 years that way hes still gonna be 20ish but not 10 years because if that’s the case i bet he wont even have reached the 50th rank by then because im pretty sure the author wanted to show us his full progression, so being rank 50 at 25 doesnt make him a bad ass anymore because within spirit hall three of the team members are already 50-53rd rank at age 23-24 since you cant enter competition at 25 or was it 25 and under ^^

    • Tang San will always be a badass, I think they said earlier that Tang would only be in seclusion for a year or so but they may slightly increase the time. But there is no way that they would do a 6-10 year time skip and have Tang remain <50 since this who light novel they have been setting him up to be the youngest titled douluo "weed" douluo. My guess is that He will be 50 or at least close to 50 after a year has passed.
