Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a social justice-type person, and I quite like the story as well as Tang San. But often it really does feel like the author is just masturbating to himself over how brilliant Tang San is.
I feel you… I just wanted to complain that now even a LESBIAN woman fell for Tang San. As if sexual orientation were just a question of how attractive the other person is… And as if EVERY SINGLE strong woman in existence will naturally fall for the first man who defeats her. Because, you know, every woman craves having a partner who is stronger as her. And so, regardless of her sexual orientation she will definitely fall for the very first man who happens to be stronger than her. He has to be attractive of course. But aren’t all main characters attractive? Because, you know, where would we get to, if a main character was less than perfect.
Sorry, I’m feeling slightly pissed because of this. Details like this are starting to seriously ruin the story for me. I understand that Purple Pearl respects Tang San. And it’s fine if she likes him. But ‘like’ isn’t equivalent to ‘love’. You can respect an like somebody without falling in love with them. Especially, if they don’t fit your sexual orientation.
And what is it with ‘she doesn’t dislike men any more’? Did she coose to become lesbian because she dislikes men? Then she is surrounded by a whole lot of men, considering she dislikes them so much. Never mind the fact the sexual orientation isn’t a choice.
So Tang San ‘cured’ Purple Pearl of her homosexuality. What a miracle.

Which is probably one of the reasons, or even the main reason, why this is the only Xianxia Novel I ever seriously attempted to read. I gave every other I tried after a few chapters. And at the moment I am seriously considering dropping this novel as well.
And yes, I can see that the women are treated ‘well’ by the standards of the genre. But I seriously dislike misogyny and objectification of women.
I guess what I am trying to say is that while I understand that this inherent misogyny is inherent in the genre and culture this novel stems from, it still bothers me. A lot. And it ist spoiling the fun this series used to be.
Oh, I don’t blame you for being bothered at all. Personally, I treat most xianxia (and web novels in general) as cheap enjoyment – weak character development, a fountain of cliches and ‘fortunate’ events. Lots of powerups and fighting. A fun read to take a break from studying.
Personally, I’m sticking with this. The battles are great, the element of teamwork adds to them immensely. The characters are likeable enough and I would like to see their story through to the end, tying up all the loose ends. It’s an enjoyable read. Perhaps not a finely written piece of literature, but I don’t believe that any web novels are.
To be honest, I believe that misogynistic themes are actually pretty weak in Doulou Dalu. This chapter aside, I don’t believe that they’ll reappear that prominently.

The fact that I like most of the characters and would like to see their story through to the end is part of the reason why I am this pissed. And yes, I completely agree with you on the ‘enjoyable read but not great literature’ part.
And it is true that the misogyny is comparably weak (which is part of the reason I haven’t given up on this novel yet).
As for your question: I read some manga, but I haven’t found many that I thoroughly enjoy. As for light novels, I really like Yu Wo’s novels, but they are in an entirely different genre. As far as Wuxia and Xianxia goes, this is the only novel I have ever seriously attempted to read.
Oh man, I totally feel you. Reading a bad novel is one thing. Reading a good novel, which slowly turns into a bad novel, is another thing entirely – and it is so much worse. That sense of disappointment at something which you genuinely enjoyed having the life sucked out of it is depressing. (Not that I’m saying DD has become bad, not at all.)
Ah, right. I didn’t recognise the name at first, but turns out I have read some of Yu Wo’s work. I read Legend of the Sun Knight for quite a while, but dropped it after a certain incident with the MC’s eyes. Reading from there on was too depressing for me, so I sadly gave up on it. I think KnM was decent as well, and I’ve heard that 1/2 Prince is good.

I completely agree. It is so sad what some people do to their stories or characters. It is the same with seeing a character with a lot of potential slowly being destroyed by bad character developement.
I think you should give Legend of the Sun Knight another try. I know which incident you are referring to (I read the entire series) and although it does get darker overall after this incident, it still remains a good read and retains much of its humour. I liked 1/2 Prince as well and it is less dark than Legend of the Sun Knight (but still, LSK remains my favourite)
Yeah Purple Pearl just pissed me off. Sexism and homophobia in one sexy-and-will-inevitably-be-turned-straight-by-the-MC-because-he-automatically-causes-every-woman-in-a-thirty-mile-radius-to-gush-a-waterfall-out-of-their-nethers-because-fuck-you-he’s-the-protagonist package. Honestly, I love the characters in this light novel, but I’m seriously pissed at the author right now.
On a happier note, I’d recommend I Shall Seal The Heavens as a good read for you because it has almost none of that. Sure a few women fall for the MC, but it’s nowhere near as bad as in most Xianxia. Also, the women who are introduced as badasses remain badasses, and the MC’s sex drive is so low I’m convinced he’s a genuine asexual. Besides, there is an implied lesbian couple several hundred chapters in, as well as a pair of “brothers” who are also implied to be in a relationship. Granted, they’re minor villains, and they don’t last as long as the lesbians, but still.
Yup, having lesbians and homos automatically makes a LN great.
Although I disagree with all the ‘progressive’ bullshit, I still second the recommendation for I Shall Seal the Heavens though, it is the only LN worth reading.
Gays will always be seen as weak, as well as most woman. it is psychology, not sexism or homophobia. If an MC is gay, it is harder to make him seem stronger when not in a fight, but still isn’t that hard. Woman were originally programmed to stay by the baby, while the men go out and hunt, and it is hardwired men’s brains to see woman as weaker
It’s true that LGBT characters don’t automatically make a story good, but it does feel nice for gay people to have representation. How would you like it if every single story out there had straight people depicted only as comic relief or as freaks? Props for knowing and liking ISSTH though. I love the romance between Meng Hao and Xu Qing, and the action and worldbuilding are fucking badass. The only fault is it starts off a bit slow.

and the definition of homosexuality is “the condition of experiencing physical, emotional and sexual attraction to members of one’s own gender”. Therefore Purple Pearl was in fact cured of homosexuality.
True, it is possible to believe you are homosexual (or heterosexual), while you are in fact bisexual, simply because you have, so far, only been attracted to people from one gender (never found ‘the right person’ from the other gender, so to speak).
But I agree with matt3134 that in this context it definitely felt like he ‘cured’ her from her homosexuality. Especially considering that her sexual orientation was called ‘skewed’ and ‘strange’ before.
And: hating men is not equivalent to being lesbian. You can have absolutely no problem with men and still be lesbian. And you can hate men (for whatever reason) and still be heterosexual. Although in that case you will probably end up being asexual. But it is not as if you can ‘choose’ to be homosexual because of a dislike for the other gender.
And this is probably what bothers me the most. Respecting and liking Tang San? I have absolutely no problem with that. But like equals not love.
(And by the way: if she hated men that much, why the hell was her crew pretty much exclusively male from what we have seen so far?)
So many people chose to commit adultery, when such an act was punished with the death penalty. So many people stole money and corrupt their official position, when they know that the death penalty awaits if they get caught. But no one will make the argument that someone is born an adulterer/adulteress, or born a thief.
The point is, people will disregard consequences when their action is perceived to bring them pleasure or advantage.
Yes, homosexual people derive “pleasure” from their homosexual acts. And for that, some will brave even death penalties. But none of this argue that someone is born with this urge, or that it is set in stone. It is a learned behavior, molded by situations, inputs, sometimes abuses. And some of them, after years of homosexuality, renounce this lifestyle afterwards as sinful. This is why homosexuality is not equal to skin-color, despite the vigorous attempt by the homosexual-lobby to make the connection and thus ride the “racism”/”bigotry” train. One cannot change one’s skin color, but one can change one’s sexual preference, which is amply documented
But for thievery as well as adultery there are ‘objective’ (so to speak) reasons. People steal things they cannot afford (or money in order to afford those things). They steal because they have something to gain from it. People commit adultery because they cannot find pleasure in their relationship or because they are attracted to someone outside this relationship. And while neither behaviour ist socially accepted, it is based upon socially accepted goals or desires, which are considered understandable by most people.
If homosexuality were learned, the question would be: where do I learn it in a society that claims it doesn’t exist? How come, people who have never been exposed to homosexuality still turn out to be homosexual if this desire is socially learned?
Also, there are many homosexuals who severly agonise over their desire or preference, which they are told is unnatural and still it remains. How do you explain this, if it is supposed to be a conscious decision?
As for the part about this desire being set in stone: Many people are bisexual (according to studies). Some are drawn more to the opposite gender, some to the same and some don’t have any preference. Many might never notice because they choose to ignore any attraction they might feel that doesn’t fit the picture they have of themselves (or the picture society paints as ‘normal’). Of course those people can choose to reject their attraction to one gender and also ‘switch’ their orientation. But that is because they have a different orientation to start with.
And while there are people who are disgusted by the very idea of sharing a bed with a person of the same sex, there are also people who are disgusted by the idea of sharing a bed with a person of the opposite sex.
And maybe it is true that one isn’t born with a sexual preference. But maybe it is. As far as I know, there is no scientific prove as to either of those theories (that hasn’t already been proven wrong at some point). As with most issues concerning human developement, gender issues etc, you can find studies, experiments and whatever you like that prove or undermine each theory you might support or oppose.
Science has proven time and time again that homosexuality is a chemical imbalance in the person’s brain which is why, once that chemical imbalance is corrected either by the natural process of the body or by the use of medications their homosexuality tendencies cease to exist. However, the LGBT community continues to cover up these studies with their bigotry! This said, be who you think you are, I don’t care either way, but science is fact. Also, everyone is whining and complaining about a subject which is still punished by death in most countries in this world. These countries, and their people don’t give two shits about your opinion, and your whining and complaining will never change that.
I have read both of the articles you suggested. As for the first one, I would like to quote a significant sentence: “But one of the co-authors, neuroscientist Zhou-Feng Chen of Washington University, cautioned against forming hasty conclusions about the potential influence of this neurotransmitter on human sexual orientation.” The entire study is about mice. Not humans.
As for your second article, I would like to read the study it refers to. But, as far as I know, scientists have no idea what about 80% of our genes do. So unless this study has checked every single human gene and has proven that none of them can have anything to do with sexual orientation, I doubt that it proves anything.
As for ‘Science is Fact’: Science has been wrong many times. Pretty much every big discovery overturnes something that has been considered ‘fact’ up until this discovery.
And maybe the people you are refering to are not interested in my opinion. But then they probably are not interested in you opinion either. But if nobody ever tries to change anything, nothing will change. So the argument ‘nothing will ever change that’ is true insofar as it keeps people from trying and thereby proves itself.
Also, you might want to consider your usage of language. Insulting someone who doesn’t share your opinion won’t win you the argument. Actually, it will probably hurt you cause since it evokes the impression that your arguments lack backing and you therefore have to resort to insults to support your cause.
I rolled my eyes at this one, too. Honestly, the whole Purple Pearl character just seemed… like, it’s okay if she rapes the currently mentally retarded Xiao Wu because she’s a girl, how much harm can she do, when Xiao Wu has been Tang San’s berserk button for forever? Then even though she’s the leader of a bunch of pirates, Tang San doesn’t get annoyed she tries to attack him when up until now his entire philosophy is ‘pull out the grass by the roots’ and he even killed almost an entire crew of one of the pirate groups that served under her? Not only that, he just takes her as a servant(/student?)? And then she falls in love with him?
I can understand the reasoning behind Tang San not killing her. For one, he was grateful that she and her people saved his comrades. Also, she displayed no intention of killing him (even stating that he was free to go, provided he would be a bit humiliated first), even after he attacked and humiliated her. So basically, forcing her to accept him as superior was the mor logical route to take.
But about the other points, I totally agree with you. Apparently, as far as the author is concerend, a woman being touched by a man is horrible (as seen when Tang San scolds Xiao Wu for her fighting style. Although everything between unwanted sexual touching and rape is just wrong, apparently in this universe it is also bad if a woman employs a fighting style that requires a woman to touch a man), while it is absolutely no problem if another women harasses her or goes even further… So yeah, I don’t get it either, why the pure fact that purple pearl is a woman is enough to squench Tang San’s fury.
And I already said everything I have to say about Purple Pearl falling in love with Tang San.
I am not very well versed with this xiaxia universe so can’t comment on the misogyny. I think Tang San left her alive and didn’t kill her despite being angry was primarily because she is a woman. So far in this series, he has not gone against a woman with killing intent. In the previous chapter, he slowed down while attacking her and then did’t kill because of fatty and his disciple asking him to stop. But he needed her “resources”, so the next logical option was to capture her with such ferocity that she wouldn’t dare go against him. Makes logical sense to me.
So I was thinking, Xiao Wu’s spirit is a rabbit, right? And she herself, used to be a rabbit, right? And spirits are generally hereditary inheritance, right? So… wouldn’t that mean that essentially, anyone with a beast spirit is a descendant of a hundred thousand year spirit beast that decided to take human form, and tool spirits are from human bloodlines?

it seems like they dont want any help… they already have 3 translators or editors and they started releasing less! when it was just Bagelson he was releasing shit tons almost 10x as much as they release now with 3 or more people working on it
what is going on? a month or two ago they released 2-3 chapters everyweek. now there haven’t been even one this month. they haven’t even assigned a translator to ch216 yet according to the schedule. did they quite? i thought douluo dalu was a rather popular LN so why the sudden hiatus?
then maybe they should ask for donations. using the “no donations” as an excuse is stupid. i appreciate bagels work on the series and really like his translations, one of the bests translatoters i know. but if he doesn’t have time to at least release 2-3ch a week then i really should hand it over to a site which does accept donations and work with a schedule 3-4ch a week plus 6-7 sponsored chapters which is the normal. and just like many others have mentioned, it isn’t just him there are 4 of them and i really doubt all suddenly fell in love… and i don’t think they have had exams for 3 months without stop… they used to have a rate at 2-3ch/week but the last 3 months they have only released 12ch.

Its not about asking questions but the way in which questions are asked. If one is to simply asked “hey Piggy or Bagel can anyone update us on when we’ll get new chaps?” Something along those lines would be respectable. However, belittling the tanslators efforts for the series by writting snippets of the next chapter or telling people theres other translations undermines their work. Making agressive statements towards the translators aint cool either cause their human man, & they probably dont like people coming at them all agressive…or am i wrong?
calm down neckbeard. Everyone here has the upmost respect for the inscrutable bagelson. His translations really are a work of genius. He’s also created a community around that work in which people look forward to the next release and enjoy discussing it.

You guys are funny! Wtf is a neckbeard? FYI no one is acting like “white nights” its just common courtesy to not undermine people who give you free service. I understand why people from different generations dislike this 1, its all about “me, me, me” & people thinking bc its the internet its ok to be ass to mouth. We all want more chapters but my belief in motivating the translators to keep working bc translating chapters from one language to another completely grammatically different language is beyond hard. Don’t think anyone is mad at Bagelson, but I can understand that some people would rather see a more consistent translator pick the series up if he no longer has the time. Like people have said it takes a ton of time to translate a 10k+ word chapter to english, but it would be nice to know whether he’s super busy right now or if this just the speed he’s going to continue translating at in the future. The reality is that if he only has time to translate 1 chapter a week it might make more sense to get in touch with a site like WuxiaWorld and see if they want to take over so it doesn’t take 2 years to catch up to the 300+ chapters of completed chinese chapters. They have paid translators and given Douluo Dalu’s popularity I’m guessing they’d be more than happy to take over. That doesn’t mean we aren’t all very appreciative of the hundreds or thousands of hours Bagelson has no doubt put into translating up until now, but it’s hard to keep up with a series when updates are so inconsistent and spaced out.
How hard is it to translate when there are 4 translators and a site they can literally go to right now that has it translated? The site has an extremely rough translation but seriously they can’t go there and smooth out the already translated chapters and post them here? Come on translators step it up a bit
Maybe because it is no less work to try to rework a ‘rough’ translation as you put it, into readable english than it is to translate it from scratch? Especially because you still have to crosscheck the entire text with the original to avoid mistranslations. But if it’s so easy, you could try get a chines raw, put it through google translate and see if it’s easy to rework it into a readable text.

I don’t really understand the problem. In the end she still wanted to marry Xiao Wu, so it’s not like she was scared straight. More like scared bi, if anything. It’s well possible for some really attractive person to challenge the boundaries of someone’s sexual preferences.

I feel you… I just wanted to complain that now even a LESBIAN woman fell for Tang San. As if sexual orientation were just a question of how attractive the other person is… And as if EVERY SINGLE strong woman in existence will naturally fall for the first man who defeats her. Because, you know, every woman craves having a partner who is stronger as her. And so, regardless of her sexual orientation she will definitely fall for the very first man who happens to be stronger than her. He has to be attractive of course. But aren’t all main characters attractive? Because, you know, where would we get to, if a main character was less than perfect.
Sorry, I’m feeling slightly pissed because of this. Details like this are starting to seriously ruin the story for me. I understand that Purple Pearl respects Tang San. And it’s fine if she likes him. But ‘like’ isn’t equivalent to ‘love’. You can respect an like somebody without falling in love with them. Especially, if they don’t fit your sexual orientation.
And what is it with ‘she doesn’t dislike men any more’? Did she coose to become lesbian because she dislikes men? Then she is surrounded by a whole lot of men, considering she dislikes them so much. Never mind the fact the sexual orientation isn’t a choice.
So Tang San ‘cured’ Purple Pearl of her homosexuality. What a miracle.
Sorry, for the long rant, but I am pretty pissed.

I don’t think gay people exist in the xianxia universe. By nature, the writing is very traditionalist and it displays very conservative values e.g. women are attracted to powerful men.

Which is probably one of the reasons, or even the main reason, why this is the only Xianxia Novel I ever seriously attempted to read. I gave every other I tried after a few chapters. And at the moment I am seriously considering dropping this novel as well.
And yes, I can see that the women are treated ‘well’ by the standards of the genre. But I seriously dislike misogyny and objectification of women.
I guess what I am trying to say is that while I understand that this inherent misogyny is inherent in the genre and culture this novel stems from, it still bothers me. A lot. And it ist spoiling the fun this series used to be.

Oh, I don’t blame you for being bothered at all. Personally, I treat most xianxia (and web novels in general) as cheap enjoyment – weak character development, a fountain of cliches and ‘fortunate’ events. Lots of powerups and fighting. A fun read to take a break from studying.
Personally, I’m sticking with this. The battles are great, the element of teamwork adds to them immensely. The characters are likeable enough and I would like to see their story through to the end, tying up all the loose ends. It’s an enjoyable read. Perhaps not a finely written piece of literature, but I don’t believe that any web novels are.
To be honest, I believe that misogynistic themes are actually pretty weak in Doulou Dalu. This chapter aside, I don’t believe that they’ll reappear that prominently.
Out of curiosity, do you read anything else online?

The fact that I like most of the characters and would like to see their story through to the end is part of the reason why I am this pissed. And yes, I completely agree with you on the ‘enjoyable read but not great literature’ part.
And it is true that the misogyny is comparably weak (which is part of the reason I haven’t given up on this novel yet).
As for your question: I read some manga, but I haven’t found many that I thoroughly enjoy. As for light novels, I really like Yu Wo’s novels, but they are in an entirely different genre. As far as Wuxia and Xianxia goes, this is the only novel I have ever seriously attempted to read.

Oh man, I totally feel you. Reading a bad novel is one thing. Reading a good novel, which slowly turns into a bad novel, is another thing entirely – and it is so much worse. That sense of disappointment at something which you genuinely enjoyed having the life sucked out of it is depressing. (Not that I’m saying DD has become bad, not at all.)
Ah, right. I didn’t recognise the name at first, but turns out I have read some of Yu Wo’s work. I read Legend of the Sun Knight for quite a while, but dropped it after a certain incident with the MC’s eyes. Reading from there on was too depressing for me, so I sadly gave up on it. I think KnM was decent as well, and I’ve heard that 1/2 Prince is good.

I completely agree. It is so sad what some people do to their stories or characters. It is the same with seeing a character with a lot of potential slowly being destroyed by bad character developement.
I think you should give Legend of the Sun Knight another try. I know which incident you are referring to (I read the entire series) and although it does get darker overall after this incident, it still remains a good read and retains much of its humour. I liked 1/2 Prince as well and it is less dark than Legend of the Sun Knight (but still, LSK remains my favourite)

Yeah Purple Pearl just pissed me off. Sexism and homophobia in one sexy-and-will-inevitably-be-turned-straight-by-the-MC-because-he-automatically-causes-every-woman-in-a-thirty-mile-radius-to-gush-a-waterfall-out-of-their-nethers-because-fuck-you-he’s-the-protagonist package. Honestly, I love the characters in this light novel, but I’m seriously pissed at the author right now.
On a happier note, I’d recommend I Shall Seal The Heavens as a good read for you because it has almost none of that. Sure a few women fall for the MC, but it’s nowhere near as bad as in most Xianxia. Also, the women who are introduced as badasses remain badasses, and the MC’s sex drive is so low I’m convinced he’s a genuine asexual. Besides, there is an implied lesbian couple several hundred chapters in, as well as a pair of “brothers” who are also implied to be in a relationship. Granted, they’re minor villains, and they don’t last as long as the lesbians, but still.

True, it is possible to believe you are homosexual (or heterosexual), while you are in fact bisexual, simply because you have, so far, only been attracted to people from one gender (never found ‘the right person’ from the other gender, so to speak).
But I agree with matt3134 that in this context it definitely felt like he ‘cured’ her from her homosexuality. Especially considering that her sexual orientation was called ‘skewed’ and ‘strange’ before.
And: hating men is not equivalent to being lesbian. You can have absolutely no problem with men and still be lesbian. And you can hate men (for whatever reason) and still be heterosexual. Although in that case you will probably end up being asexual. But it is not as if you can ‘choose’ to be homosexual because of a dislike for the other gender.
And this is probably what bothers me the most. Respecting and liking Tang San? I have absolutely no problem with that. But like equals not love.

So many people chose to commit adultery, when such an act was punished with the death penalty. So many people stole money and corrupt their official position, when they know that the death penalty awaits if they get caught. But no one will make the argument that someone is born an adulterer/adulteress, or born a thief.
The point is, people will disregard consequences when their action is perceived to bring them pleasure or advantage.
Yes, homosexual people derive “pleasure” from their homosexual acts. And for that, some will brave even death penalties. But none of this argue that someone is born with this urge, or that it is set in stone. It is a learned behavior, molded by situations, inputs, sometimes abuses. And some of them, after years of homosexuality, renounce this lifestyle afterwards as sinful. This is why homosexuality is not equal to skin-color, despite the vigorous attempt by the homosexual-lobby to make the connection and thus ride the “racism”/”bigotry” train. One cannot change one’s skin color, but one can change one’s sexual preference, which is amply documented

But for thievery as well as adultery there are ‘objective’ (so to speak) reasons. People steal things they cannot afford (or money in order to afford those things). They steal because they have something to gain from it. People commit adultery because they cannot find pleasure in their relationship or because they are attracted to someone outside this relationship. And while neither behaviour ist socially accepted, it is based upon socially accepted goals or desires, which are considered understandable by most people.
If homosexuality were learned, the question would be: where do I learn it in a society that claims it doesn’t exist? How come, people who have never been exposed to homosexuality still turn out to be homosexual if this desire is socially learned?
Also, there are many homosexuals who severly agonise over their desire or preference, which they are told is unnatural and still it remains. How do you explain this, if it is supposed to be a conscious decision?
As for the part about this desire being set in stone: Many people are bisexual (according to studies). Some are drawn more to the opposite gender, some to the same and some don’t have any preference. Many might never notice because they choose to ignore any attraction they might feel that doesn’t fit the picture they have of themselves (or the picture society paints as ‘normal’). Of course those people can choose to reject their attraction to one gender and also ‘switch’ their orientation. But that is because they have a different orientation to start with.
And while there are people who are disgusted by the very idea of sharing a bed with a person of the same sex, there are also people who are disgusted by the idea of sharing a bed with a person of the opposite sex.
And maybe it is true that one isn’t born with a sexual preference. But maybe it is. As far as I know, there is no scientific prove as to either of those theories (that hasn’t already been proven wrong at some point). As with most issues concerning human developement, gender issues etc, you can find studies, experiments and whatever you like that prove or undermine each theory you might support or oppose.

Science has proven time and time again that homosexuality is a chemical imbalance in the person’s brain which is why, once that chemical imbalance is corrected either by the natural process of the body or by the use of medications their homosexuality tendencies cease to exist. However, the LGBT community continues to cover up these studies with their bigotry! This said, be who you think you are, I don’t care either way, but science is fact. Also, everyone is whining and complaining about a subject which is still punished by death in most countries in this world. These countries, and their people don’t give two shits about your opinion, and your whining and complaining will never change that.

I have read both of the articles you suggested. As for the first one, I would like to quote a significant sentence: “But one of the co-authors, neuroscientist Zhou-Feng Chen of Washington University, cautioned against forming hasty conclusions about the potential influence of this neurotransmitter on human sexual orientation.” The entire study is about mice. Not humans.
As for your second article, I would like to read the study it refers to. But, as far as I know, scientists have no idea what about 80% of our genes do. So unless this study has checked every single human gene and has proven that none of them can have anything to do with sexual orientation, I doubt that it proves anything.
As for ‘Science is Fact’: Science has been wrong many times. Pretty much every big discovery overturnes something that has been considered ‘fact’ up until this discovery.
And maybe the people you are refering to are not interested in my opinion. But then they probably are not interested in you opinion either. But if nobody ever tries to change anything, nothing will change. So the argument ‘nothing will ever change that’ is true insofar as it keeps people from trying and thereby proves itself.
Also, you might want to consider your usage of language. Insulting someone who doesn’t share your opinion won’t win you the argument. Actually, it will probably hurt you cause since it evokes the impression that your arguments lack backing and you therefore have to resort to insults to support your cause.

I rolled my eyes at this one, too. Honestly, the whole Purple Pearl character just seemed… like, it’s okay if she rapes the currently mentally retarded Xiao Wu because she’s a girl, how much harm can she do, when Xiao Wu has been Tang San’s berserk button for forever? Then even though she’s the leader of a bunch of pirates, Tang San doesn’t get annoyed she tries to attack him when up until now his entire philosophy is ‘pull out the grass by the roots’ and he even killed almost an entire crew of one of the pirate groups that served under her? Not only that, he just takes her as a servant(/student?)? And then she falls in love with him?
Yeah. Okay. This definitely makes sense.

I can understand the reasoning behind Tang San not killing her. For one, he was grateful that she and her people saved his comrades. Also, she displayed no intention of killing him (even stating that he was free to go, provided he would be a bit humiliated first), even after he attacked and humiliated her. So basically, forcing her to accept him as superior was the mor logical route to take.
But about the other points, I totally agree with you. Apparently, as far as the author is concerend, a woman being touched by a man is horrible (as seen when Tang San scolds Xiao Wu for her fighting style. Although everything between unwanted sexual touching and rape is just wrong, apparently in this universe it is also bad if a woman employs a fighting style that requires a woman to touch a man), while it is absolutely no problem if another women harasses her or goes even further… So yeah, I don’t get it either, why the pure fact that purple pearl is a woman is enough to squench Tang San’s fury.
And I already said everything I have to say about Purple Pearl falling in love with Tang San.

I am not very well versed with this xiaxia universe so can’t comment on the misogyny. I think Tang San left her alive and didn’t kill her despite being angry was primarily because she is a woman. So far in this series, he has not gone against a woman with killing intent. In the previous chapter, he slowed down while attacking her and then did’t kill because of fatty and his disciple asking him to stop. But he needed her “resources”, so the next logical option was to capture her with such ferocity that she wouldn’t dare go against him. Makes logical sense to me.

The longer it stays submerged, the blue will slowly turn red. When they first encountered the Deep Sea Demonic Whale, due to the fact that it’s sttack was too sudden, and also because it’s attack were all AoE abilities, Tang San was unable to protect everyone at the same time. But the situation now is different. They have ample time to prepare. If they can be undetected. Then using the Abyssal Dragon Boat speed, they could land on Sea God Island easily.

Its not about asking questions but the way in which questions are asked. If one is to simply asked “hey Piggy or Bagel can anyone update us on when we’ll get new chaps?” Something along those lines would be respectable. However, belittling the tanslators efforts for the series by writting snippets of the next chapter or telling people theres other translations undermines their work. Making agressive statements towards the translators aint cool either cause their human man, & they probably dont like people coming at them all agressive…or am i wrong?

We all want more chapters but my belief in motivating the translators to keep working bc translating chapters from one language to another completely grammatically different language is beyond hard. The amount of time & dedication that is required to accomplish their work is impressive. That they do it for free without compensation & just for the love of the LN they we all enjoy. Trust me i want more chapters like everyone else but im not gonna harrass the translators to do it. Maybe i was raised different or maybe its bc im Canadian but i try to show appreciation for people who do me a solid.

Don’t think anyone is mad at Bagelson, but I can understand that some people would rather see a more consistent translator pick the series up if he no longer has the time. Like people have said it takes a ton of time to translate a 10k+ word chapter to english, but it would be nice to know whether he’s super busy right now or if this just the speed he’s going to continue translating at in the future. The reality is that if he only has time to translate 1 chapter a week it might make more sense to get in touch with a site like WuxiaWorld and see if they want to take over so it doesn’t take 2 years to catch up to the 300+ chapters of completed chinese chapters. They have paid translators and given Douluo Dalu’s popularity I’m guessing they’d be more than happy to take over. That doesn’t mean we aren’t all very appreciative of the hundreds or thousands of hours Bagelson has no doubt put into translating up until now, but it’s hard to keep up with a series when updates are so inconsistent and spaced out.

Maybe because it is no less work to try to rework a ‘rough’ translation as you put it, into readable english than it is to translate it from scratch? Especially because you still have to crosscheck the entire text with the original to avoid mistranslations. But if it’s so easy, you could try get a chines raw, put it through google translate and see if it’s easy to rework it into a readable text.

Not gonna complain about why there isnt an update for the Translation but all I’m asking is
Is everything alright on the other end? Just take your time in doing what you are prioritizing 1st. I love reading this translation work you all have done but I hate to see your lives being affected because of it (which leads to delaying the translation).
