        • I too am grateful, but I wish it could be 2 or 3 chapters a week. Granted they are pretty lengthy chapters compared to some other light novel style chapters.
It is just so hard to wait a full week before reading the next part of their trials, just to find out there is another chapter at least before they finished said trial.

    • She said earlier that each of them would only get 1 free ring, and Tang San already got his. When Fatty got his second breakthrough he didn’t get a free ring, Tang San gave him the item instead of having to kill a spirit beast. So if Tang San were to get another spirit ring then it would have to be from something he killed or another spirit beast giving itself up willingly like Xiao Wu.

        • Really hope he gets some spirit rings for his Clear Sky, as if he gives his full set from his Blue Emperor to Xiau Wu, while having no rings left, he’ll, while not completely powerless, will be at quite a set back compared to the rest of the team.

            • And I pretty much doubt that he will give here any spirit rings in the end. Well, maybe he will return her own spirit ring which he obtained through Sacrifice. But I pretty much believe that after he finished his 9 golden test Xaio Wu’s soul will be fused back to her body and she will instantly jump to the same level as Tang San. That Seagod is still a “god” and I’m pretty sure he has some mighty abilities.

              • Everybody had a reward after finishing the tasks and Xiao Wu nothing. So probably, in the last task she will recover her spirit as a reward for complete all the trials.

          • I really doubt that he’ll need to sacrifice all of his spirit rings for her at this point. Since her soul keeps getting more connected to her body and her body keeps getting stronger through all the trials and stuff that they’re doing, it feels like it’s leading up to her eventually being able to get back into her body without needing him to sacrifice his cultivation. (Maybe aside from the ring he got from her.)

    • Originally I could understand that Spirit Masters grow to become blood thirsty given the mechanics of the SL universe; especially when it comes to killing Spirit Beasts. However, the attitude of Shrekies toward Spirit Beasts should have changed by almost 180° ever since they found out about Xiao Wu. They even befriended Xiao Bai, so I assumed they were “rehabilitated”, and then they say stuff like this. It’s somewhat disturbing.

PS: I’m holding my fingers crossed for a double / triple release, but many thanks to Bagelson for this chapter all the same! =)

Why do I have a feeling that Tang San will become an existence similar to the Sea God? And the story feels sort of rushed now at the end, at least considering how fast they rise in spirit power rank… But I guess it's okay. At least, as long as the ending isn't rushed, then I'll be satisfied. 🙂

  4. I have a feeling that our clear sky hammer will have all self made techniques like xiao Wu. Anyone with me in this guess? Maybe after he becomes the sea god or something?

    Like

    • Once he reaches the god level, he enters a new realm of existence, something like a different dimension. So…probably not. He’ll have to hunt spirit beast. Plus, we still don’t know how he’s going to solve the problem of Xiao Wu’s resurrection: if he follows the metod that has been stated up to this point, he will have to restart from zero and he will also no longer be able to go past level 90. Getting rings for the clear sky hammer is still a side problem/objective.

      • Don’t forget Xioa Wu still didn’t get any rewards, because they are superimposed. So I guess in the end the Sea God will help her resurect even without Tang San losing anything. After all it would be pretty stupid of him to train his successor, just to let him become a useless cripple afterwards.

  5. I certainly don’t mind that a trial like this one that is long and torturous was more or less skipped through.

Also since Bai Chenxiang didn’t participate in the last trial, what was she more or less allocating her time too? hopefully cultivation or she might be in for some trouble versus the Orca king even if she is only scouting after all it is a 10000 year spirit beast as Xiao Bai after all was holding back to not kill them earlier…. And unlike the others who have no chance at spirit rings their should be plenty of suitable sea birds. (Fatty couldn’t really use a sea bird because his spirit is a phoenix but swifts and their relatives will and can venture out to sea so their should in theory be some)

    • She would be able to get another spirit if she wasn’t pure speed spirit master. It was mentioned earlier in the story that pure spirit masters have all their spirit rings come from the same sort of spirit beast as their other spirit rings. So unless they happen to find one of those here which is unlikely she probably won’t get another spirit ring until they return, even if she had the option of a free Sea God spirit ring.

So Tang San will probably get the Orca King as 8th spirit ring, that leaves the Whale King (yes, I’m pretty sure they’ll kill him at some point, after all, there’s some enmity between the S7D and him, so might as well get his ring) for another ring. Actually I kinda hope Tang San won’t get the Whale King as 9th ring for the BSE, but instead as a 1st ring for the CSH, that would be epic!

    • The hints are there…

“At least from the surface of the trial, this test shouldn’t be as difficult as the first three.”
“Even if the fourth trial might not seem so difficult, Tang San still knew that these trials would never be simple. Passing absolutely wouldn’t be easy.”
“…this Evil Spirit Orca King should be even stronger than Xiao Bai…”

It may not seem difficult now but from the 3 lines above, they’re underestimating what’s about to happen. What if Evil Spirit Orca King is just another way of calling the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King they met before? Just saying…

He could at least drop message for fans and say that there wont be Sundays release. But not even message for fans who are anxiously waiting for release just shows his disrespect for fans. I hope he drops this as I’m sure there are a lot of translators out there who would gladly pick this popular novel up.

          • Why does everybody seem so convinced that ‘serious’ translators are chomping at the bit to pick this novel up? Also: what constitutes a ‘serious’ translator? Someone who does this for a living? Well in this case, you would first have to convince someone to hire said ‘serious’ translator. Which, apparently is not going to happen, since there would be an official translation otherwise.

Or somebody who is accepting donations and sticks to a regular schedule? Well, from what I remember, the translations _did_ come at regular intervals for the last few months. And yes, this sunday there was no chapter. There were two chapters on one two weeks ago. That evens it out. Also, we are still stuck at the question of why you seem to be so sure that somebody else would _want_ to pick this up and create the regular, infallible schedule you seem to long for. Has somebody told you that they want to take over? (As a side note: as a translator I would stay very far away from any community that is going to skin me alive if my live gets in the way and I can’t make it one week. Translation is work. Like, a serious amount of work. The kind of work were I spend hours working on a text approaching the lengh of one of these chapters. Many hours. You can try googeling the rates of professional translators and try to figure out how much you would have to pay for each chapter if you hired one of these. If you pay this amount, _then_ you can complain).

As for accepting help: there were three translators for some time and at least one proofreader (not sure what the precise makeup of the team was/is). Does that constitute ‘help’? If not, what would constitute ‘help’?

To sum it up: if people are doing something for free, you don’t get to complain about how they are doing it. If you want to complain, pay them. And, btw, donations don’t count. Because ‘donations’ per definition are not something you _have_ to give somebody. If you want accountability, draw up a contract. (And for the record: the people accepting donations? They are also doing this as a hobby. They don’t owe you anything either. They can also say ‘screw this, I outta here’. Or ‘sorry, can’t make it’. In this case, you can stop donating. But they still haven’t wronged you. Hell, even professionals with deadlines don’t always make said deadlines.)

            • Please let him NOT DO IT FOR FREE or even better drop it all together. Ill gladly pay my share as I’m sure a lot of fans will chip in as well rather than have to wait for some DB to translate on whim.

              • Still, the question remains: why are you so convinces that _anybody_ will pick this novel up if it gets dropped? Never mind translations of the same quality. Or immediately. Or somebody who will release chapters more frequently.

Say bagelson follows your demands and droppes the novel. What is the most likely scenario? You seem to think, that there is already one (or several) translator waiting in the wings to pick it up the moment it gets dropped. In your imagination this translator has already worked through the entire terminology (yes, it takes time to get the terminology. No, having read it in the original language isn’t sufficient). There is also a team of proofreaders and editors waiting to help this translator, so the next chapter will be released immediately. This team will ideally consist of several translators, proofreaders and editors to ensure that there are several chapters of high quality released each week. Of course, the readers would be willing to donate… but how much? And how would the donations affect the release of the chapters?

If you want accountability for the translations each person who has contributed deserves to be paid. If you want them to do it as a job instead of a hobby, you would have to pay them something similar to what a professional would get paid (because otherwise, why would anybody want to translate for you?). I am going to give you the rate I, a translator without finished education, got paid on an internship: 3cents per word. Doesn’t soud much? Try counting the words per chapter. This chapter contains more than 5000 words. You can do the math about how much you would have to pay just the translator for this chapter yourself. But that still leaves the proofreader and the editor. So lets say were going to triple the amount. Do you still think the community will be willing to pay that amount of money for each chapter? And how long do you think it will take to collect the money? Because that will be the amount of time you will have to wait for each subsequent chapter. I predict that the first few chapters might be coming pretty fast… and after that it would become more and more difficult to collect the money. And be honest: is waiting for the money to be collected (which won’t give you a schedule either, since you can’t control how much the others are willing to spend) really that much better than waiting now?

But to be perfectly honest: I don’t consider the dream scenario outlined above exceedingly unlinkely. If there is a translator eager to translate this novel – they are quite likely to have contacted bagelson already. So if bagelson does what you wish for and drops the novel, most likely for some time (maybe weeks, maybe months, maybe forever) there won’t be any chapters at all. Then maybe someone will pick it up. Maybe this person will be very eager at the beginning and there will be a lot of chapters. That’s actually quite likely. But it’s very unlikely that the eagerness is going to continue. Especially after the first round of ‘why didn’t you post today, where is my chapter?!’ So, basically we’re back to square one.

And honestly: why would somebody want to take up the novel after having read how often people comment without any respect for the work the translators are doing?

That means that If I am good lets say it takes me about 3 hours to translate each chapter, about 111 dollars per chapter… If we count that there are +300 chapters to DD, we get a whopping 33,300 dollars, and thats a very conservative estimate.

I think Ren from wuxiaworld said that coiling dragon chapters were already 2-3 hours, and when he started, it was 5 hours per chapter. These chapters, in that case, are easily 4-6 hours for an experienced translator. (If there is a translator reading this, please give a better estimate if I am wrong) So the cost for the 336 chapters of DD…(using 4 hours per chapter,) is around $50,000+. And bagelson is doing this for free. Just… Wow, and we are complaining???

                2) Ever tried calculating how much you would have to pay for each chapter if you went with the rates ‘real’ (ie professional) translators get? FYI: for this chapter it would be more than 150€ (no idea about $). Want to pay that for each chapter? If not, shut up.

They do a chapter a day and an extra chapter every 60 dollars and they earn A LOT from donations. They are always picking up new novels to translate because it earns them more than 1k per week/novel. And btw some of them are doing it as a hobby as well (they study full time/work).

But direct translations of sentences from Chinese to English has weird grammar and phrasing. It’s a matter of patience in rearranging the words for the sentences to make sense and getting used to reading rough english. At the current rate or release weer have about 1.5-2 years before the series is finished, to say nothing if the sequels. Part of that is the community’s fault, as a few translators have been run off by rude fans. For examples just look at some if the past chapters not translated by bagel. Please don’t get mad a people who want faster releases, this thread had been ugly. Instead sympathize with them. Some people are used to reading series that get updated multiple times a day, their chapters are about 1/3 the size, but it can be a shock switching over to this schedule. Also, I personally would like the releases to be faster or a collaboration to be done so we can finish the series and sequels in a reasonable amount of time. Thank you for your time and good night.

    • 1/3 the size is a huge over staintment, many I read get 5 chapters a week and probably equal the same size as some of these

      Like

    • I think part of the issue is lack of easily accessible communication from the translator themselves.

If Bagel left a simple message, “No chapter this week”, I think it would ease a lot of tensions. I believe a fair number of people on Sunday revisit the page several times throughout the day in the hopes they’ll catch the release right as it comes out. If they knew in advanced that there’d be nothing to anticipate, they could move on.

They’d be disappointed, but they wouldn’t be waiting for something that wasn’t coming.

I mean, what the hell were you guys getting or learning from this novel if you can’t even figure out that much? Tang San nor any of the Seven Devil nor any of the characters I read from this novel were as unclueless and unresourceful and waste their time and life complaining.

  23. Thank you bagel for all the characters you post and your hard work I know you’re most likely busy and that’s why you didn’t post but please let us know when that happens but if you can’t tell us for some reason o’well anyway love the book and sorry about any rude comments from my fellow fans

  24. Please my fellow readers and fans… Never demand the translator for more chapters. It is sooo rude. Especially since the translator do the “CHARITY” works for us.
I have read DLDL for more than a year. Its not the end of the world if the translator not released anything.

  25. You guys are not being considerate as Translators are doing us a favor and you guys flame them for not caring of your feelings? Then who will mind their feelings when they just missed a week and gotten bad comments all over the place. Why don’t you guys go to wuxiaworld website and pay for translator to translate $30-60 per chapter so they can quit their part time job and be full time translator. I know i will be flamed after this is posted but I don’t regret what I said. It is sad truth

    • If someone from wuxiaworld would actually decide to pick this up then gladly we will. You’re forgetting the fact that there are people here who would gladly donate money but noone there is picking it up because Bagelson already did. We’re stuck in a bad situation

      • You are derailed from my means. In a simple way, I just meant don’t impose expectation on Bagelson as you came here voluntary instead go to other sources such as wuxiaworld and pay for translator. If people here are as you said willing to pay, I don’t see why there wouldn’t be someone that capable be picking it up. You can even pay a sum of money and keep those translated chapters to yourself and no one can complaint about it. It will be a matter of time before Bagelson drop translating DD due to “mean DD fans” that continue push him to brink without knowing what is happening to him in Real Life and forgetting the fact that he is not obligated to give them a simple message or anything at all.

rly, you getting cringy over 2 dumb trolls? this is the internet. smh. junior is very thankful for your work, but if senior purposefully delay more than needed cause of 2 in a hundred idiots, strikes me your disposition is about as outstandingly mediochre as theirs. so sad.

thus, thx for nothing. i will keep cultivating binary, break through 100 and become deus ex machina ^^

    so long :p

  28. so you’re saying there were more than 2 trolls? we’ll, dang, i was had XD

meh, either way, junior will of course read any chapter here most thankfully, regardless of soon transcending to rank 100 in machine speak …

We’ll just wait and trust that, sooner or later, you’ll find the time to complete this awesome work of yours.

    • You say all of that. But… I would gladly donate or pay, which they are not accepting, and paid translators won’t pick it up because he is doing it for free.

D2 and D3 are being translated right now also. Meaning we have to wait until he finishs. He built up a community and gave them expectations. The real issue is that nobody would even complain if he gave a 30 second post saying he was busy. They complain because he says nothing.

Are they entitled to anything? No, but on a moral or ethical standpoint they deserve something for making this as popular as it is.

So you’re entire post was just rude and mean.

      • Bagelson and co. doesn’t owe anyone anything. They are mostly doing this because they like the novel and would like to share it to the world. One reason why they probably refuse to accept donations is because they themselves know that there might be times that they will fail to give us updates. Accepting pay/donations would mostly burden them with the responsibility that they know that if they can’t meet would likely impact us and them negatively.

I urge everyone to be patient and respect their time after all they all have lives to live and responsibilities outside this. I applaud his conviction of maintaining this site and being realistic about what they can and cannot give which is 100% consistency. at least they’re honest enough to know this and will not bite more than what they can chew.

Also remember you are here on your own volition and whatever expectations you have is more of something you yourself made and are now imposing on the translators. Being rude, calling out names does not help the situation. A simple reminder to him would suffice. Truth be told he has been more reliable to me than cookiepasta has been for D2 but still I appreciate and follow them both.

While it is true that it is the readers and the fans who made all this popular by continually subscribing to his work. unless it is verified, there is no way to know if his site at all receives pay for the work he has done. Translations are somewhat original pieces because they are in a way a reflection of how the story was given and would still have inconsistencies whether in meaning or terminology when compared to the original which is btw in a foreign language with foreign customs, writings etc. It is hard work to not only transform the words but to derive the meaning from them that accurately displays what the original author meant.

So yes. Leave him alone. Im mostly saying this because I’m afraid. he after seeing how rowdy and disrespectful most of you are and not to mention how hurtful you are with your words. You would push him into dropping this novel and the remaining chapters will never be read unless translated by someone else which is we have no way to know if it’ll happen. He could do that. We all know it. And theres not a damn thing we can do if he did. So no. pls be better people

And Master bagelson. I will always remain a faithful fan and follower. More power to you. There’s no other translator who can phrase things as eloquently as you do. If I could read and translate for you I would but studying the language would take a lot of work. I dont know how you guys do it.

And if i remember correctly, he did post 2 chapters the week before. Doesn’t that imply that there on’t be any new chapter until this week because he usu. posts only a chapter a week so i don’t get why all of you are complaining really

    • its sad that you’re calling us leechers because we don’t donate and that we don’t consider that they have their own life. You’re forgetting the fact that they chose not to take donations so they won’t feel obligated to translate chapters in a certain pace. You’re far too misinformed when you blatantly just call out people and didn’t even check if your facts are righ, so much people here are ready to donate to these translators. You’re also part of the “stupid people” that are complaining

  31. Hey Bagelson and company… I have read every single line of comments, in a nutshell they all say:
-More chapters and not caring what you do in your life
-Announce If there will be something this week
    -People who criticize your methods
-Others who wish to pay you or make you drop the series otherwise

But there are quite a lot of positive remarks:
    -Defending your method
-LOTS AND LOTS of “thank you for the awesome work”
    -Conversation of simple DD content
    -Love declarations for your work

Others: a few impostors that like to add fuel to the fire, though I won’t deny you would love to say a few lines they said to shut the complainers.

And well, the same as the others, love your work, after all, it was thanks to you that I was able to start reading Wuxia novels in general. So, even If you canceled this series I would still appreciate you on something very near godly levels.

  33. Woohoo!!!! Just wanted to say I waited a few months before coming back to read– I stopped at the sea pirate lady (sorry too lazy to go back and find her name) as I was a little apprehensive about reading — because I really love the “romance” part of the story — don’t get me wrong. I LOVE Haochen and all the Shrek Seven Devils!!! But I just really REALLY like Haochen and Xiao Wu a tad bit MORE!! And I didn’t want to read the 7 without her being wholly (soul) in the story. So — I waited, and can I just say that the wait was sooooooooooo worth it and at the same time I shouldn’t have waited because Xiao Wu still had her parts and all the trials were just fantastic and I shouldn’t have been surprised that the story just keeps getting better and better!!! And now I am convinced that he will become “The Seagod” and will not have to give up any spirit rings in order for Xiao Wu’s spirit to be fused back with her body. Omgeeeeee and I feel like it will happen way sooner then later which I am super excited about!!!!!!!!! Woohoooo. So thank you so much Bagelson for sharing this wonderful story that I would never ever be able to read without your translations!! I salute you. kow tows 100 times. Respect—

  35. I have read every chapter of this story, on this site. As long as they translate it, I’ll still read it, here. I’m able to read this for free and I check it often for updates. But, I’m not going to kick and scream, like some people. I am going to wait, cause it’s worth waiting for. For those who wish the translator will drop it, so someone else can be your slave and work at your command, I hope karma breaks your computer. You aren’t working on it, so you can hush. It’ll update when it updates and you should be happy about that. Thank you bagelson, for taking the time to translate this story.

  36. Just wanted to say while I am sad that we have not had a release for a while now, I do understand RL takes priority over all of this, which to my knowledge is done for fun. I certainly enjoy new change releases and check back multiple times Saturday/Sunday.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the work you have done to bring us the amount of chapters we currently have. Without having anything new to read for Douluo Dalu, I have been reading ‘Transcending the Nine Heavens’ to help fill the whole that was created by not having Douluo Dalu being there.

I hope the chapters get released soon but please do not take my post as one of those angry posters who basically say they do not care what is happening in your life, your daughter/son could be laying on their deathbed and they want you to hurry up and release a chapter to keep them happy. REAL LIFE ALWAYS TAKES PRECEDENCE and those who do not understand that are not worth the time it takes to read or respond to their rude messages.

Keep up the good work, I will keep checking back every so often in hopes something gets released.
