  1. Im not sure if you read these, but could you tell how much time you spend more or less on 1 chapter. For whatever reason I find it realy interesting as I spend 45 min or so on reading a chapter.

    • I have some experience in translating things from German and English to Bosnian (native), and vice versa. From my estimation, it takes him roughly 15 – 20 hours for a rough translation. Then another 3 to 6 hours for correcting mistakes, and then another hour or two to find a better word for an explanation of a specific circumstance. This is purely from my experience of course, so I could be wrong. To add to that. I am by far not a perfect translator. My spoken English and German are by far better than my written. Now, I don’t have any experience in Chinese, so the situation for Bagelson could be even worse than what I described there. Just goes to show, exactly how hard it is to do this kind of thing. Still doesn’t excuse any kind of communication from you to us Bagelson 😛 (last sentence was for Bagelson, if he reads this)

      • I was expecting that I was a bit low on the time I expected it to take, but I did not think it was over 20 hours. D: But I suppose you need to rewrite a lot for it to make sense, as sentences are build diffrently. Thanks for the reply tho. ^.^

        • My estimation was made for a quality translation. If you just want to put out an unfinished rough translation, which leaves quite a lot of open holes in the text (which can not be interpreted with imagination. I tied to read the machine translated one, and I quickly gave up, because it was horrendous), then it would take you somewhere around 5 to 10 hours. But that would not be efficient. If you do it that way, then you will find mistakes, plot holes, and wrongly translated bits, which would increase the amount of time needed to translate it properly even further.
Now, experienced translators can do it a lot faster than I explained earlier, but the quality will be “acceptable”.

      • My estimation (I translate english to german and vice versa, which, in my estimation, is significantly easier than chinese to english) would have roughly the same outcome, but is still somewhat different.

My guess is, that it would take me about 5-10 hours (depending on lengh, on whether any new terms or concepts show up (if new terms and concepts show up I might take significantly longer. Especially if there are any puns) etc) to translate a single Douluo Dalu chapter from english to german (rough translation but readable. Probably not pretty). Than a break of at least 24-48 hours before I can start corrections, wihich would probably take 1-2 hours simply for typos etc. Also, it would probably take me some time to crossreference all terms, especially those that don’t show up very often (this one I can’t estimate since it depends heavily on the specific text. With Douluo Dalu it would probably take longer than average). And then I would have to go over the whole text again for wording, style etc. Depending on the text that one can take almost as long as the original translation.

And this is between English and German, which are reasonably similar in sentence structure etc. Whith chinese, I guess that the time could very well double. Which is probably part of the reason (if not the main reason) why my primary translation would likely be faster than chief117a’s.

(And, of course, it all depends heavily on the translator. I don’t think I’m especially fast, but neither do I think that I am very slow)

        • Oh, and I forgot: I have been doing that for some time now, my first translations were not very good quality-wise and it took me about twice the time.

Asking for 2 chapters basicly he would need 2 whole days free. And if he has 2 free days then he probably has other things to do too… Maby he want to read some stories himself. Maby he plays some games. Family, frends. >.>

        In order,
        Grass snake ring yellow

        Pit spider ring black

  4. Question.. Do beast spirit masters not need to absorb rings from similar spirit beasts anymore? If not then I don’t remember when that happened. If so then how would Bibi Dong use Da Ming and Er Ming for spirit rings since they aren’t spider spirit beasts? Also, I always just assumed that Xiao Wu’s mother was the same type of spirit beast as Xiao Wu. If I remember correctly Bibi Dong killed her and used her spirit ring as well… I’m so confused!!

    • They do, but I think for 100,000 years its so powerful no matter what that it doesn’t matter. They are an exception I think. Plus its about optimization if I recall, not a necessity.

      • No, she wanted the rings for her last two slots on her second spirit; the bones would have gone to other people since she already has a full set of spirit bones

        • Does she have all 100k year spirit bones? Cause she can replace her old ones if not… except for her chest and head.

          Like

          • It was said by Grandmaster that she’s probably using a spirit bone fusion ability to safely absorb the spirit rings for her second spirit, so replacing them would interfere with that; besides even if that wasn’t how she’s done it, her arms are both hundred thousand year ones that dropped at the same time, and Er Ming and Da Ming wouldn’t have necessarily dropped leg bones; and Tang San was only able to replace his because of his healing type hundred thousand year spirit bone and the sea gods light, so replacing them probably isn’t possible for her.

            Liked by 1 person

            • In fact its stated that 100k beasts always drop a bone that you need, seagod douluo tells tang san about that

            • Haven’t you notice that Bibi Dong’s Both Spirit Bone in Arms are abit abnormal? Though not external spirit bone, they can be used or project outside the body or rather transform her hands to a weapon, though the differences really is obvious compare to a real external spirit bone, it is functioning really abnormal unlike the other spirit bone that send forces outside the body to do a pulse-like attack, long range slash, explosion, or mental attack it can be use for melee fights instead.

    • So far hundred thousand year spirit rings seem to give miscellaneous spirit abilities at worst, like Tang San’s eighth spirit ring abilities: solidifying air and water into crystal, and and AOE stun ability that ignores physical defence; they’re not exactly aligned with his grass spirit, but still good abilities regardless, more perpendicular than opposite.

And hearing her first spirits 9th spirit ring came from the same spirit beast, death spider emperor, I’m assuming either Xiao Wu’s mothers spirit ring was the 7th one on her second spirit, since Xiao Wu never directly said that 9th one was from her mother, or Xiao Wu’s mother was that spirit beast and they just adopted each other, like Er Ming and Da Ming.

    • From what I understand, it’s more about compatibility of spirits rather than type of beast, although similar types would practically guarantee compatibility. Using different types of beasts requires knowledge to ensure they don’t conflict. It’s the same way Tang San could absorb the snake as his first spirit instead of sticking to plants. For Bibi Dong, I presume she can use Da Ming and Er Ming because the python and ape are both very much strength based and she has tyrannical base spirits. Foe Xiao Wu’s mother, it may be speed compatibility. Also, Xiao Wu’s spirit didn’t conflict with Tang San’s spider spirits so Bibi Dong shouldn’t have much of an issue either.

    • If I recall correctly Grandmaster said that what was important that they had similar spirit abilities. Grandmaster was also researching spirit mimicry, that plant could absorb beast and beast could absorb plant. The general public didn’t believe in that though so its not really a well-known practice until Grandmaster was able to prove it through Tang San I think. Bibi Dong was also closely related with Grandmaster before so maybe she trusts also in his theories.

    • I think they can absorb any spirit ring. But if the ring you absorb do not fit with your spirit it may have a negative effect insted of positive. Its how the blue silver grass could absorb not just plants but also animal spirits as long as they fit to some degree. Water spirits beasts overall do not fit well with land spirit. Basicly you would not gain as much by getting one. But seeing how a 100k year old spirit beast is as powerfull as it is, it can adabt better to diffrent spirits and the positives make it realy usefull despite not being a perfect fit.

      Like

    • Of course they needed. In this case (exactly the same Species) it is more beneficial for the Spirit master to absorb spirit ring of the same Spirit Beast of his Spirit, not only it will be super compatible that there’s no problem in absorbing it under normal condition but also one of the original skills belong to that same kind of Spirit beast will be more powerful and will be not subjected to a negative variation.

But if you’re pertaining to just similar type of Spirit Beast, Bibi Dong clearly looking at the picture of her becoming more powerful as long as the Quality of Each of her Spirit Ring’s cultivation exceed that of 10K Years level regardless of what kind of Spirit Beast as long as its a 100k year level she’s sure that it will provide her both power and spirit bone with 2 abilities. As for the absorption, she’s not afraid knowing her attributes, she’s far more a evil in terms of her twin spirits and it will provide her domineering effect over other kind of spirit beast especially non-light attributed Beast and backed by high cultivation level, it’s a piece of cake for her to absorb formidable spirit ring.

Prevailing to absorb Spirit Ring is always depend on the Spirit Master himself, based on Grandmaster, “foundation is important for Spirit Master,” and Tang San can even skip rank with it when absorbing, so why not even the difficulty by the difference in Types?

  5. Wow, the mom`s alive..
Seriously, from a spirit tournament, this story starting to become more and more like tactic ogre. angel, demon, god, divine weapon, etcera etcera.

BTW thanks for the chapter Bagelson, ser! good job!

    • Well, since the only actual quality of blue silver grass is that it’s tenacious as fuck, his mom being able to resurrect is still in the boundaries I feel. What to me really seems like an asspull is the “I’ll let you out of your spirit rings to meet Xiao wu once I become a god” stuff.

      • well, his “mom” resurrected too wasn`t much surprise to me too, though. Only, how the hell did his father turn young again? it is because after his mother resurrected that he got to do “that” again with her and thus restore his spirits? cause as far as I remember, only a title douluo can become young again and he`s…. well, crippled.. (not even a spirit douluo if I recall)

Still, imagining Tang San with spiderlances on his back and a wale tail coming out of his butt gave me a good laugh, thanks man 😁
