Hello everyone,
I don’t like having posts that aren’t actually translations here, so I’ll keep it brief.
I’m sure many of you have noticed another site also pick up translation of Douluo Dalu. While I may have some opinions on poaching, given my recent release rate I don’t really have the legs for an argument on the topic, and they did remove all BST chapters when asked.
However, some children seem to have taken this as an excuse to spam both the comments here and reddit with spoilers and personal attacks against both readers and me – including my first ever death threat.
Please report such behaviour where possible, or otherwise ignore them. I try to sift through comments for offensive content here every couple of days.

dw dd2 and 3 r longer
this is what i found awfully weird
dd2 has over 600 chapters and dd3 has over 900 chapters and still counting but dd ends at under 350 chapters…

well the chapters for dd 1 are longer bc they are divided in parts which is also what happens for dd 2
all chapters in dd 1 and dd 2 are divided in about 4-5 parts and the parts for all of them are about the same length, and dd 2 still has over twice as many chapters
dd 3 on the other hand only has one part per chapter, though the chapters each are about half as long as one complete chapter (all parts) of the other ones

i dont have any basis on what im about to say since i havent read either of the 2 other series. but maybe the reason DD is shorter chapter-wise is because each chapter is a lot longer, its like 1 DD chapter = 3chapters from a different novel? atleast thats how i imagine it. dunno if the other 2 DD series have the same content length per chapter.

Nope, not yet at least. I’ve got barely 60 chapters left, it’d be a shame if I can’t finish it after more than 200.

Heh. Sounds like a big baloney to me. A death threat? Maybe something more believable would have worked, but am not buying this. It would be a shame, if you were to quit before the finish, but to me it looks as if you just pissed in your pants after some other group tried to pick it up. Not once have I seen you care about your viewship before, much less write a lousy comment here.
So yeah, I call BS.

honestly i already know what happens at the end but at the same time ive been loyal to your translations for a long long time now. i check this website for updates everyday and its just routine that i do it everynight before bed.

Who poached your translation anyways? All I could find was the machine translated version which isn’t even enjoyable to read, it’s like trying to read the ramblings of a toddler that knows words but not how to formulate a sentence

Bagelson, I don’t normally comment on posts because my sentiment s of gratitude, but it has been lovely to read on bst and see how it has gone from having half the words being tyrannous to having want I consider the best quality of translation in the cln scene. And all this has been done without incentive of payment, which makes it one of those beautiful examples of art for arts sake.

Sadly no. Posts with the word “spoiler” are autoblocked and highlighted in my feed, but that’s about it.
I guess if worst comes to worst I’ll just disable open comments and require registered WordPress accounts, but that’d be a shame.

Frankly speaking, if I were to take actions, I might do worse than you. The problem is one could have as many accounts as one has e-mails and one can do as many e-mails as one wants… the better would be if it was able to ban an IP but I don’t know if you have that possibility here. OK, there are ways around that but not everybody knows how to do it^^.

At least they’d have to register a new account each time. Inconvenience has been proven to reduce offences of all kind by a lot.
IP banning is possible, but today it’s way too unreliable. Especially with things like smart phones.

Also, I don’t think your release rate is so bad. A long chapter from this series a week is equal to maybe 2-3 smaller chapters a week of other series and they are all free. It’s just that readers have been getting spoiled by the insane release date of some translators who do it as a full-time job or who have a team working together, so certain “privileged” readers now expect every translator to put out a chapter a day or something, even if they are translating for fun on the side while they are in school or work. Which is crazy.

Very true. I’ve recently began to read again Douluo Dalu 2 on Wuxiaworld and frankly speaking, Bagelson’s rate isn’t any lower than them, because they cut a chapter in various pieces while Bagelson only posts full chapters. So basically, his pace is quite steady,
And for those who, just like me, used to watch japanese animation thanks to fansub, we don’t mind waiting 1 week between two chapters cause it was the time one had to usually wait between two episodes (it’s still the same but I’m currently not watching any airing anime except DBS). So the 1 week wait isn’t a problem, in my opinion.

Please don’t stop! I only began lately to comment but I’m really a fan of your work and whatever they do, they’re far away from the quality of your work, as much as they lack integrity. You never deserved to be attacked that way by anyone and I’m sure we’ll still be a lot, this sunday as always, hitting our F5 button to read your translation! You do a good job so never let anyone tell you otherwise.
As for the death threat, you should consider reporting this to the police. At least, they should be able to tell you what actions you can take. Whatever happens, you can’t let such guys prosper.

That’s stupid. I didn’t even know someone was trying to poach this. Also I don’t know what you mean by your recent release rate because all things considered you have a pretty amazing one. These chapters are really long and your release rate is a lot better than a lot of other translators. You just keep doing you and we will be here for you every time. I really like this story and get super excited when I see you’ve updated. It’s so close so I’m hoping nothing will happen to make you drop the series at this point.

As a long time fan of your translations(Since 2013) and my first comment ever on the site, I just want to say how much I appreciate the work that you do and how thorough you are in your translations. I look forward to new releases and it makes my day every time a new chapter comes out. Your release speed is perfect in my opinion, especially since you aren’t doing this full time, and just know that you do have many readers out there who stand by you even if we don’t comment. Don’t let the trolls get to you. The community will stand behind you and tell you how much we care and appreciate the work you are doing.

I don’t even know the other site but that sure sucks, however unless you announce that you will stop the translations I plan to keep coming here to read DD Bagelson. In fact, I used to spam refresh the GoogleDocs page but since releases slowed I simply wait for my email to bring me the good news and the jump to here to read. The internet is full of stupid trolls, pay no heed.

Lol it’s funny how the other site thinks it’s translations are good. They are very crude, hard to understand, character names are messed up and plenty more. While the speed here isn’t exactly fast by any stretch of the imagination, he’ll it can be considered closer to slow than anything, the quality is top notch.
So thank you I’m Bagelson for giving us high quality translations.
As for the others who absolutely can’t wait to ruin their experience, and would rather read sub par translation just to pacify the never ending itch go ahead an read the other translation. BUT BE WARNED quality is pretty low. Compare chapter 270 here and 270 there and then you will understand.

Not to forget that every story they are translating has already someone working on them, world of cultivation is already at chapter 544, DD is getting translated here, DD2 on WuxiaWorld and God of Slaughter wasn’t updated for 2 months, but I doubt that is a valid reason to take it over.

DD was one of the first novels I read. So I’ll start and finish DD with BST and only BST.

No way in hell they’re going to split chapters… The difference in quality is far too great for it to even be considered possible. The others are barely better than machine translation while Bagelson does a work worthy of being considered on a pro level: not the same world. Just like the difference between fast food and real delicious food… you have to wait for the latter but there’s no words to describe how superior it is.

Sorry for just having a master in civil engineering and not having particularly studied languages since highschool. Oh, and by the way, being fluent in 3 languages (french, portuguese and english) being able to speak a fourth (german) plus having learned enough latin to translate texts from roman authors, does it count as having been “a tard” in school? I’ve read enough books, including translations, to know how well Bagelson’s level is. And you, how many book translations are in your bookshelves?

I have seen them they went in front of your translations, they also took DD3 and tried going at it; as well as DD2 and apparently the previous tl of DD2 allowed them to post those chapters on their site, but i doubt the reliability of that statement and the funny thing is once you enter their site a pop up appears asking for donations and even funnier fact is that in the chatango box someone made a post stating that the quality of their DD translations was shit!
A shitty group trying to get on the popular series likely because those that wanted faster releases would willing to donate although they are unaware that tl poaching is the bane in the community.
Bagelson just ignore those stupid people!! Go at your own pace as you are doing a great job, so although your speed might be slow the upside to this is that the sequels are building enough chapters for readers to be able to enter them and even binge read a large quantity of chapters!! So it’s a cost/benefit situation which I am quite happy exits!!

For DD2, it was translated by Cookiepasta until december but they had to stop. Wuxiaworld had announced on Cookiepasta’s website that they were going to take up the project and later came Wuxiadream, claiming the project too. Setras allowed them to pick what was already done but they had to give credits to Setras on their website… they still found a way to “steal” 3 chapters as they published the whole 37 chapters Setras had publish on his website but they only credited him on the 34 first chapters. I wrote a comment to notify Setras about that so I hope he’s seen it because no matter how small it is, robery is still robery.
At the very least, they had to give up most of their “starter” material as it was all stolen from others and they might still have more problems, hopefully.

Please make sure to make a distinction when you’re speaking between wuxiaworld and wuxiadream.
Wuxiaworld is an amazing site with a great community and many many translators who post quality translations just a good as this one or better. These guys seriously rock and RWX holds all the translators on his site to a high standard when it comes to morals etc etc.
Wuxiadream is the one which has gained a reputation for poaching lately. While I don’t agree with their methods, part of the reasons their translations are on the shitty side at the moment is that their team of translators is add up of mostly Chinese native speaking translators with less fluency in English. They don’t have the background, reputation, or finances of some bigger sites to employ English editors. That being said, I’m not sure how many people would even be willing to sign up to work for them with all this negative stigma they’re building around their name.

I do :p. I was one of the 1st to go there read DD2 when they began and I’m impatiently waiting for each DD3 chapter :p. Wuxiaworld is an amazing website and they do really good work.
As for the “others”… They don’t even deserve being spoken of… They’re bad and they built a very bad reputation.

So what that it doesn’t have 10 chapters and technically it does. Sean the tl contacted cookie pasta way early asking for a discussion probably to host their chapters on WW but because they allowed this random group which I am presuming approached cookiepasta after Sean to host their chapters. So WW had to begin from the start.

I think it’s for the better: that way, they can really make it their own project. It might take a few months to reach cookiepasta’s translations but I think it’s definitly worth it.

Yeah I agree that it is better that it started from the beginning although it will be few months, at least they will be reliable as well for a lot of people it doesn’t matter much at the moment because they are going along with Bagelson to the end of DD before continuing with the next one… so as long as Sean braves through the criticism of starting from scratch it will be fine!!

there are some on forum novelupdates com and discords but its light at the moment just asking for justification as sean didnt give one properly as it would be bad if he said something things about this poacher and the community went berserk…
so for now there is not much but, in a month or 2 when people forget or find out that DD2 is going from the beginning, there will be a lot of criticism, and wanting them to continue where it was left off. It can be seen with DeathBlade and “A Will Eternal / ATTE” where those that didnt read the announcements keep criticising him for not continuing with where xianxiaworld left off, although those translations were really bad… so for now, sean will not experience too much trouble but once people forget there will be a lot…

I was referring to the group that poached DD from Bagelson, had posted DD2 on their site even though wuxiaworld notified cookie pasta that they will be translating it and they have also posted DD3 on their although it’s being translated at wuxiaworld.
They have a similar name wuxia… just not World but something else

It is truly sad the people can resort to negativity with only minor issues such as delay in releases. As far as those who have read your translations and have been reading for a while, they and I would understand that translating is not a full-time job and delays would come up from time to time.

Also he does it full time and is married to a Chinese woman and lives in China! Our boy right here is a one man show and drops full chapters! And these dumb ass fools complain? By experience, I’d say you don’t want to be a bodygard XD. Well… if it means being able to read all the chapters translated by Bagelson, it might be worth it since those who usually make that kind of threats are simply kids who never witnessed what death might look like. They’re just brats if they can so easily make that kind of threats and I, for myself, don’t really se a reason to be afraid of some brats.

I think its fine if you require registration if it will lessen those hateful comments. I haven’t really seen them as I don’t really read comments that much, but after sticking with DD for such a long time and providing such a good translation to the community you don’t deserve any of that shit, even if you don’t translate at the same speed anymore. A lot of translators drop much smaller projects without even reaching 100 or even 50 chapters, so to last this long is really commendable. Thank you for bring DD to the English reading public! Those guys who are only after donations and traffic isn’t worth anything so I hope you don’t stress over them.

Peoples reactions to this are completely absurd. I’m ashamed that this has happened to you. Never posted before, but this really upset me. I’m not going to say I won’t read from the other site if they are ahead, because I don’t think they are to blame the treatment you are recording, but I have so much love for you for introducing me to the genre and for the work you’ve put in and continue to put in. You don’t take donations or anything, or I’d express my appreciation that way. I thank you for your hard work and dedication Bagleson. I did not even know these stories before reading your work. Possibly would never have known about DD if it wasn’t for you. I’ve finished reading DD1 and DD2 and still currently DD3 but I would never miss a new update you release because it is like soul food. This site helped me, as well as others I’ve told, find a whole new world of books and stories. Also wanted you to know that it was this story and this site that helped me help a niece (who hated reading) that reading can be enjoyable. Thank You

I have been reading BST for about of year now and I look forward to every Sunday. Even if you don’t post one I know you will go the extra mile and post 2 or sometimes 3 chapters another time around. Even if someone else is translating, I won’t read them. After reading a few translated light novels and subbed shows I realized translators are more like co-authors since they get to decide how to phrase the translation and give the delivery the flows best with our language.
So…thank you for all of your hard work and hopefully future work I love your translations and you do an excellent job!

Quite some time ago I started reading manga that was called “Combat Continent.” I remember thinking it was sort of interesting, but then I read a comment about how bad the manga was compared to the original light novel. That lead me to a google drive account with about thirty or so chapters translated by some bagelson guy. Then I started reading the comments document and that led me to Coiling Dragon and then so many other novels. One thing has led to another and I’ve gotten quite a bit of enjoyment out of it.

I’m one of what I think is the more quiet majority which is not bothered by your rate of release. These chapters are quite long compared to most web novels, and there are other novels that I now follow that are being translated much more slowly. I don’t really mind their release rates either, because there are plenty of other things to do.
The majority of the negative comments (on this site at least) are clearly from a very small number of people, possibly just one, using multiple aliases. It is also clear that these comments are being posted by the other group. This behavior just serves to make this other group look petty and irrelevant. On the other hand there is a lot of support to be seen in the comments from other people. Unique and real people. I’m very glad to hear that you plan to continue. Do you have any plans to continue to translate after DD is over?

SAME LOL. I read the first 40 or so chapters on the manga, started reading the translation version. At first, I swapped to the translation because I wanted the chapters faster, now I’m with the translation because the quality is just so much better.

Well, whatever, even if they give me cookies I won’t read them on any others site except here on BST. I remember one time on WW that someone else was talking shit about your translation saying it’s super bad he dropped it after reading only a couple of chapters. It enraged me so much that I wanted to kill that bastard too haha but that was too petty for me to do so much less comment back with a death threat, if only he continue reading it he would’ve known the quality have improved. First time commenting here, but after reading this post I had to.
I really appreciate your work in translating this series. I am someone who started with the manhua before finding out that it was a light novel originally. Once I found that out I found your site and have enjoyed this series immensely.
I have been reading fan translated works for years now, long before I ever found your site. I can say for sure that while your translations are not on the level of ‘perfect’, they are damn close. The speed of your translation compared to chapter length isn’t actually all that bad. It can be frustrating to me personally sometimes due to the cliff hangers on some chapters, but that is just part of the deal. Then again, it would be near to impossible for a translator to keep up with my reading speed of a novel, seeing as how I read 200-300 chapters of fan translated works a week on average, sometimes upwards 5-600 according on the chapter lengths. However, even with me reading that much I check here at least once a day just in case you post at a random time.
As an author myself, I really enjoy reading the quality that you put out in your translations, and the few hiccups I do see are few and far between, and rather trivial.
Hate to hear that some punk ass kids decided that flaming and threatening were the way to go. I would say to ignore them, but at the same time I am reluctant to really do so just because of how crazy the world has become nowadays. Know that even though there are many of us that may never post, we still appreciate your work and support you with all our hearts. Many of us would donate just to show our appreciation of your quality and current speed. Even more people would probably be willing to pay you to translate full time.
Also, at your current average speed of 1 chapter a week, it will take a bit more than a year to finish the translation of this series. Always been curious as to if you plan to continue translating novels on the side and if so if you have thought about which series will be next?
Anyways, I have rambled enough I suppose. Keep up he great work, love what you are accomplishing here. I will continue to support you from the shadows here, as will many more people.

Guy… Bagelson’s been working on these translations for years! Do you think it was correct from the others to steal everything he’s done, post it on their website and ask money for it without Bagelson’s consent? No! And they did the same for almost every novel they have on their website!
The other issue is their constant advertisement and the use of multiple accounts to insult people here and flood.
These two facts put together with the fact their translations suck, I have enough reasons to not read their shit.

Hey, I don’t know who is trying to steal your series, I tried to find them so I could have more information on this but I failed.
My feeling is that if they want to start translating from the beginning on their own, then let them. But if they are posting your translations than it’s unacceptable because you worked hard on them and they would be stealing credit and views.
I also think it’s not right for them to pick up where you have translated to thus far. You made the series popular(at least in English) and if they picked up from where you are that is 100% poaching. If they have the determination let them pick up and new series and make it popular through how good it is and their translations.

I have already said this before (I think) but as someone who knows how this story ends and lack the finer details there is no point in reading the other translation. While they are not as bad as the previous machine translation it is still confusing and displeasing to read.
I only want to enjoy this story and I cant do it if every few seconds I notice mistakes, see sentences that make no sense or not recognise characters. Seriously I read some of the stuff that you havent gotten too yet and every time I started to be excited because of what was happening there would be mistakes or I would have to break my mind to know who was fighting who or how. Meanwhile here I can read a chapter while being excited and retain that felling even after finishing it.
Just ignore the death threat people send them because they are morons and they will never do anything beyond that. They are just cowards that wouldnt even be able to look at you in real life so they are just threat them as worthless thresh that is not worth your time.
Also you might wanna do something about this Ironman4 guy since he is posting the link to the other site while giving spoilers.

so I went there and checked out their stuff and it is so bad that ironically, in some parts the LNMTL actually comes up with something BETTER than them lol. the reading flow is terrible. vocab very limited, not even trying for best choice of term to translate. grammar is a mess. names are translated wrongly, translated where they shouldn’t be translated at all. specific terminology unique to DD is ignored. they mix up spirit ring and spirit bone ffs. they dont differentitate spirit power and soul power. ..they cant differentiate between first, second, third person and singular and plural when applying verb forms …
it’s so pathetic it makes you laugh actually.
the only nuissance I see coming from this is the trolls here in the comments, which we should probably just ignore.

Just wanted to post my appreciation for your work. I really have enjoyed this series and hope that you continue translating. If it ever becomes too burdensome and you are no longer feeling like you want to translate this series, don’t worry about backing away for a few weeks or even dropping the series altogether. Other translators ask for money or have ads that help them make a living, while you haven’t done anything of the sort. You have no obligation other than the fact that you are a nice enough person to let us read this work in English. Other translators tend to back out after this long and I’ve seen projects completely abandoned after 6 months or a year, you have been going strong for longer than I can remember.
Although I don’t know if you want any help, as I’ve seen a few guest translators every so often, I could try to help. My Chinese is fairly weak, but I am trying to brush it up, since in around 2 months I will be living in Shanghai. Well, I’m a fan reader of Douluo Dalu because your translation. First contact with Tang San was the manhua, very beatiful and breathtaking. But when I read the novel, after find crucial differences between the two works, I chose Bagelson translation as my reference.
Your work is phenomenal. I’m brazilian, not native speaker of english. For me your english is easy to understanding, to comprehend and has fast assimilation.
I confess, I visit LNMT to get spoiler about future events. But after few minutes, my head aches, my eyes tears and I start feeling something uncomfortable. LNMT is good only to spoiler… I don’t know how native english feel about those machines translations, but for me, as a portuguese speaker, is worse than torture (by the way, chinese torture… 🙂 )

This is a conservative and powerful story, about a MC well know for his persistence and dull sense. How I can abandon a excelent and marvelous work, only for fast translation? Where’s the quality? Where’s the confidence?

Ey Bagelson! Most sites I visit today aside from Wuxiaworld and Translationnations will split chapters into upwards of five parts. Yeah, really. You’re one of the “old reliable” translators. Don’t worry about the site that poached the series or whatever because anyone who actually reads this stuff knows quality is worth the wait. We read in order to enjoy the series, and your translations help everyone do that.

I don’t know why people complain about the frequency of releases. Especially when they compare it to a site like WuxiaWorld. The sheer amount Bagelson puts out per release usually outpaces those other sites that only have 4-5 paragraphs per release. Just because they “release” every day doesn’t mean they’re releasing more, they just give you a little bit at a time.
