    • Imma just Piggyback off ur top comment cause I just realised!
      So Sorry to everyone!

first off I just realised the link Bagelson used for the discord server here was actually one that expired.
Here is a Proper one to use Until Bagelson gets around to updating it
      https://discord.gg/gDAsuDg

Second I would like to remind and inform everyone that Bagelson is a University student in Sweden.
If u been here long enough u remember when Bagelson would upload daily or even rarely if we were good kids on the google doc would live Translate. But that stopped since he became a University Student and really focuses on that. This past month and especially this time period is when they have their exams and that also means Bagelson is currently very busy with studying and currently writing for his exams. In fact, I iirc he has just finished them. If there is anything u wish to discuss or ask. Come ask them in the server

      • Spirit Empire isn’t weaker than its opponent. They still have more Douluos and Title Douluos.
They just had, on one side, internal conflicts and, on the other side, bad surprises from Tang San’s army.

Qian Renxue is a coward : she wants to win the battle before Tang San’s return.
Too bad for her and her army, the hero arrives in time with 6 Title Douluos.

It’s time to turn the table…

    • I wouldn’t call that cowardics – more like good strategy. She knows, she can’t beat him and her army can only win with her help. So why hand victory to the enemy?

  10. There should be no reason for grandstanding. Somehow it makes me feel that the ones who made an entrance are the elders who are just cosplaying as the shrek monsters. To buy time. I saw this happen in a lot of stories – be it western or asian or even norse.

    Like

    • Actually the grandstanding is very important since it affects morale. If I remember right one of the things Napoleon was known for making his army seem terrifying and thus lowering the resolve and morale of his enemies. Since we’ve already seen Tang San’s ability to strategize it would make sense for him to know this and make use of it. Especially after the Spirit Empires moral rose so high. Best metaphor I can think of is that it’s easier to fall from heaven to hell then to walk there from earth. Should give an idea of how their morale just took a major hit.

    • It takes three days for the devil sharks to swim from the island to the continent.
It took Tang San moments to fly from the island to the continent with Xiao Wu when he fought Angel chick.
When the Shrek seven left the island, not even a full day after fighting Angel chick, they said good bye to the priests.
      It’s not the priests.

      Like

    • Strike that. It could be the priests, but only if he came and went twice without anyone noticing, and also if he was willing to slack off his Sea God duties by having no one looking out for the ocean. So instead of coming off as impossible, I’ll say it is highly improbable. With a capital H.

  14. I hope bagelson either stops translating after this or never picks any story I like. He is fairly good at translating but as this is more of a hobby I KNOW anything he picks up will move forward at glacier paces when compared to the many translators out there of similar or better quality who treat this as more than a hobby.

As a reader I feel like translators like him end up holding stories hostage as the community tends to not allow for others to translate the same project even if the translator lucky enough to get a good story first has a terrible release rate.

I know there will be fanboys ragging on me and calling me various nasty things, but translators like bagelson are a bane not boon to the community…even if they are doing this for free….but that one lady who repainted that Jesus painting was doing it for free…just saying free isn’t always good and can at times get in the way of someone doing it much better for a small fee. I would prefer a publisher to gather these stories translate them and sell them at a books market value. Hell 10-20 bucks for the ability to read a story start to finish is not a bad deal.

I don’t think you understand why this culture is beautiful . if you look at the people who came to this community early, it was mostly Asian students trying to practice English. There writing tended to be terrible and full of grammaticall errors, however the community would help out and over time the quality would improve. Although this community has died with the advent of QI and wuxiaworld commodifying translations, to see that there is still place for people who want to translate for fun is heartening and I would hate to see competition drive away any humanity the community has left.
      Yours kindly some rando

If the translation quality was shit, you’d have a point. Any complaints solely about the speed of something that you’re not paying for stem from a massive entitlement complex and nothing else.

      Like

  15. With a normal patreon this story would be finished in like three months(5 chapters a week and chapters split in half because of their lenght). This is going to be finished in a year or more if translations don’t speed up. Also sites like wuxiawords run ads. So even those who don’t pledge to patreon pay for the translators’ work somehow. The “he is doing it for free” argument is a bad argument period

    Like

    • Since there are only 14 chapters left and there are on average 3-4 chapters per month, it would be 3,5-5 months, actually.

(And I am not sure whether your 3 month calculation refers to the entire story or to the remaining 14 chapters – since neither is acutally correct. With 5 half chapters per week, the remainder story would be finished in a little over five weeks. With 5 full chapters it would be a little under 3 weeks. And if you are referring to the entire story, then the maximum for 3 months would be either 65 (5 full chapters) or 32,5 (5 half chapters) chapters – out of 336. So it would take either 1 year 3 months and 2 weeks (5 full chapters – 67 weeks in total) or 2 years and 7 months (5 half chapters – 134 weeks) to finish the entire story.)

  16. I swear you new readers have no patience and I feel are entitled. If this story takes bagelson 5 years to finish translating, I would continue to read. Everyone complaining that this not coming out weekly or its inconsistent. At least we know he still works on it. If you that mad about the slow releases, go find a translator and spend money on the translation to read the last chapters or temporary drop the novel until its completed and pick it back up.

This novel was being translated when chinese novel started to become main stream. Back then people translated novels as a hobby. Most light novels that was being translated(also as a hobby) was japanese light and web novel. You guys complaining to one of the people who brought an amazing work to fans for free when the genre and community had a low “niche” community because he wanted to share the work with others. One of the earliest translators back then was He-man. Ren was posting coiling dragon chapters on novelupdate and bagelson created this website to give us doulo dalu. This is when we were receiving updates from a google drive. Ren eventually established wuxiaworld and made it to what it is today.

Noveltranslation and it chinese novels on reddit was posted on lightnovel subreddit instead. This cause a great storm because they made the subreddit for everything japanese light novel related and felt that chinese novels didn’t fit in. Eventaully led to a great exodus and noveltranslation subreddit was formed. The community continued to get bigger and translators started making money off of these web novels through donations and poaching happened. Then poaching of novels happened. There is a good reason translators do not take each other works and allow them to translate at there on pace. It leads low level translations and cause translators few to continue novel or even start a new one. Here is a good reason why. (post by ren, translator of coiling dragon, desolate era and creator of wuxiaworld.) https://www.reddit.com/r/LightNovels/comments/3eukbh/tl_stellar_transformations_a_case_study_in_the/

After donating became main stream and people who could read mandarin learned they can make some spare cash, they started translating. They staretd it as a side job. College students who needed a few bucks, a side job to those who was fully employed and need spending money, etc. There wasn’t that many novels getting more than a thousand dollars a week. Coiling dragon was one of them. Then the patreon system was introduced. People could automatically pay a translators and in return he would give them chapters in advance and a few perks.

This when translating became mainstream. People came to translate as a full time job. This attracted many more translators which in turn brought a lot more novels. This cause more diversity and brought in more readers which brought in more money and more translators. This was a spiral effect. This cause the community to balloon and allowed us to become closer to mainstream and less of a niche. This then brought Qidian.

I won’t go into Qidian because I have a bias against them. So if you feel they are a positive or a negative to the community, that’s your opinion. I will say this brought chaos and turmoil, and had people choose sides for and against. The mere mention of their name cause people to downvote and brought hate. This when the community went through a drama phase but then settle down. Lets keep it that way. Now translating became a job and is no longer a hobby. The community now expect a certain standard and speed on light novels.

The reason I gave a quick history lesson on this it to inform new readers that bagelson was one of the original translators who brought wuxia translations to the fans when it didn’t have that many fans. When the community was a small niche group and translation was done just to bring their favorite works to a wider audience. Just for the fans, not for the money. They translated from the heart and help sparked the community we have today.

Back then it was a lot more pure but you take the bad with the good. We know have many translated works from many translators at a consistent speed daily. You guys can go read many others works while waiting. This novel chapter are double to triple regular novel chapter length. This man started doing this a hobby in 2014. His whole life doesn’t revolve around translating and a lot can change since then. start college, graduate from college, Maybe started a family. Could of got emplyment at a career job he always wanted. Let him live and take it at his on pace. He deserve at least that for what he done for the community.

And to those who say he should let someone else finish, imagine translating thousands a words a chapter. Translating for hours a day, over years and finally almost finish. Then give it to someone else when it almost completed. Remember all the idioms you had to explain or find an English equivalent. Editing chapters to make it readable. A lot of things go in to translating and he did it all for the community.

If you don’t follow his future works, that up to you. But this translation and project is his so let him breath. You know how discouraging it is to go on a site you made and have to read comments of people condemning you for working at a slow pace. Not even asking about your current situation in life or why your translation behind others. Just come on to complain about something you doing for free. That would make me slow down on translating or even take a break. He could be going through a lot of stress right and could come to online readers to discuss chapters and relax. But instead of the community he was original apart of, he log on online and see people complain about his speed and stress him out more. And most of the people who complain do not even support all the translations works they are reading. But feel entitled to a certain speed they contribute nothing to.

This not everyone but damn it feel like its a lot of people. I honestly feel the community rotted to a certain degree but the negative side of human nature tend to show itself when money involved. I wrote all of this just to say respect translators and if you are mad, slandering and complaining won’t help. Just drop this for some months and come back when it is done. I promise you, people who been here long enough know many novels they love go on hiatus or even been dead for a while. This one still alive. And to bagelson, Thank you for you handwork and contribution to the community. If no one else does, I appreciate you not just for translating but contributing to a community in it primal stages that open a new genre and world for me. You are appreciated.

    • Also this all happened over years. I started in this community in late 2014. It history goes back even further. I remember reading the manga 1/2 prince because it was hilarious and learned that it was a webnovel. This was in 2010. First learned of the concept of web novels then, That’s when the japanese lightnovel scene was being established. I know chinese started later but i didnt read any type of light novel(japanese or chinese) until 2014 when I read manga and a user introduce me doulo dalu. He then introduce me to coiling dragon and mushoku tensei. I started my journey then into the chinese novel community and dabbled in the japanese light novels. He-man was before my time but bagelson helped introduce a lot of readers to this genre. Please chill out on all the complaining.because it doesn’t help anyone but stress out the translator himself. I wish you all the best.

I have never read a light novel or web novel before. This was the first. Since then I have lots of them. It opened a door for me. I will I did get impatient and read the mtl version but I waiting patiently for the end so I can reread. Try reading mtl, I bet complaints about speed would disappear. I agree with you and kudos and thanks to the translator.

    • I can appreciate his role in boosting the light novel community….but unlike Ren who actually helped develop it to what it is today his only part was as a hobby translating a novel that was actually one of the better ones. Ren pooled together several talents and got a consistent release schedule going for several different novels. He battled with Qidian and is constantly innovating and improving the community.

Bagelson has stayed where he was which is what was fine for when barely anyone cared about light novels. Now he is nothing more than a burden to whatever story he translates. He should recognize that he is a relic that is now more likely to hurt the community than help it and should step aside for those who are actually doing good work. None of this is his work, he did nothing to deserve the privilege of translating it, and is in the way of people who could do this story justice and allow it to flourish.

I’m not saying he is a garbage person, just saying he needs to retire as a translator or stop treating it as a hobby in which he can come and go as he pleases. It isn’t fair to the readers and it definitely isn’t fair to the authors who put forth the creative energy to make these stories only to have their audience drastically reduced for wont of a translator hindering their ability to gather fans in a timely matter.

      Like

      • You might be a garbage person, though. If the authors were so worried about the translation, they’d have done it officially. You come across as incredibly selfish with these posts imo.

        • So the perseon insulting someone over non-insulting opinions calls me a garbage person. Laughable.

Authors of light novels have been trending towards working with translators. This can be seen on Qidian and used to be seen on Gravity Tales when they still had True Martial World. This shows that the authors do care about their work being translated.

Likely the only thing sparing Bagelson from cease and desist is that he makes no money off this so it would be hard to pursue this.

Also this doesn’t change the fact that he has barely better than most translators today and much much slower.

It is nice if a neighborhood kid mows my lawn for free….but if he takes forever to do so and randomly disappears for months without warning I would rather pay someone to do it consistently. However in this case the kid doing it makes it so no one else will be willing to be hired.

          Like

          • You say you have non-insulting opinions, but you called bagelson a relic because you aren’t getting as many chapters as you want.

The last point of your post was ridiculous as well. “It isn’t fair to the authors” the authors of these web novels aren’t trying to gather fans through translations because there isn’t a system in place that they can profit off of it. Most authors are honored that people are taking the time to translate their novels and are gaining so many fans. These authors are working for a paycheck tho, and they get paid for the chapters they write, not chapters other people translate.

Then you liken it to a kid mowing your lawn for free. Yard upkeep is a necessity, so if you’re too lazy to mow your own lawn that’s fine, but the kid who does it for free sometimes isn’t to blame for your shitty lawn.

It’s more like a friend who comes by and offers to trim your bushes into the shape of dinosaurs. Awesome, right?! He does it a couple times and then you start calling him a ‘not’ garbage person for not doing it every week.

            Liked by 1 person

‘Hey look, a person is providing a free service for me that i really enjoy… but i’m a potato so i’m going to complain he is slow and someone else might possibly do it better so this person should just gtfo.’

If you don’t like it, you’re more than welcome to give it a shot yourself, but considering the spelling and grammar in your comments you’d probably be better off with google translate.

  17. I just started reading this 3 months ago and I see some of you have been here since 2014! Anyway, thanks to the translator for taking up this project. It’s awesome, what he’s doing deserves to be appreciated. Even though he might be translating it slowly, you can’t complain since it’s basically a free translation and unless you guys are actually funding or helping him translate you don’t have a right to complain.

    Liked by 2 people

    • Actually I think it is perfectly legitimate to complain since his translating it makes it so other translators who are better and quicker will not touch it. The other 2 books in this story are likely to be done being translated before this one finishes and they began about a year ago as opposed to his 2014 starts. He may be doing this for free but by doing so he is actually getting in the way as I’m certain those translating the other books at wuxiaworld would have picked this up otherwise and probably finished by now even if they started years later.

Just because someone does something for free doesn’t mean they are providing something beneficial. Bagelson may have helped contribute to interest in the light novel community by luckily picking up a good story….but now he is nothing more than a burdensome relic holding it back and should he get his hands on any more interesting projects it will be to the detriment of the readers and authors. Essentially he is bungling around with the work of someone else who never asked him to translate his work and should he pick up another authors hard work he will only make it harder for it to be popular as the translation work kills it for years until he manages to finish it and then people come to binge read it. All the while the author who wrote it is sitting around with a greatly diminished audience and less chance of being able to earn from his work and produce new works.

Bagelson should just stop translating as he is a bane not boon tot he community.

      • Bagelson does really good work. While there are many quicker out there, you would be hard-pressed to find a better translator [MAYBE Deathblade is the only possibility that springs to my mind.]

If you want to consider equal quality with superior speed to be a ‘better translator’ then sure, but the way you called each out separately suggests you feel confident you could find superior translation skills out there [and while it is possible, I certainly don’t consider it plausible.]

That being said, I do agree with the general sentiment I’ve seen in this thread of comments- not that Bagelson should quit DD1, he’s in the home stretch now and after translating this much he really does deserve to finish it- but instead that Bagelson should not take on another hobby translation project. Do it seriously or save your efforts for other pursuits my friend.

        • Quality is a matter of opinion and to me bagelsons quality is about the same as Ren and several others at wuxiaworld. Considering quality of the translation isn’t to far apart speed becomes important.

I think light novels are past the era of hobby translators.

Hence my point it would be difficult to find a Better Translator (the only possibility that comes to my mind is Deathblade, though I am not confident) I never claimed comparable translators were as rare as Quilin horns or Phoenix feathers.

Speed is very valuable there is no doubt. I also hope Bagelson will hang up the hobby *after* finishing Douluo Dalu. Either go pro or leave it to the pros.

However, there are other completed Doluo Dalu translations out there so Bagelson taking up this project hasn’t stalled or prevented anyone else from taking it up! I didn’t know this but after doing my research I’ve found several which are equally as good and furthermore complete. Though I haven’t read them past chapter 322. I want to finish where I started. 1) There’s been a personal emergency that requires your full attention right now, and if so I hope everything is all right.
    2) You’ve decided that this is the crucial part of the story and so you’d rather just translate everything and release it all in one go so that we aren’t waiting between events 😁😁😁

About his future translations, let’s think for a moment why Bagelson even posts online. My theory (the most optimistic one) is that he likes to see the support of the community and that helps him continue working on it. So consequently, all he needs is a few, but loyal devoted readers. Which means that he’s probably ok with poaching as long as his loyal readers don’t leave so those who complain about the translation can go bugger off to mtl.

They set up patreons to reach out to their supports and some of which i donate to help them. I rather pay for chapters a day then wait a month with no news of the chapters. It doesn’t matter if you are good at translating. If you don’t reach out to your readers and leave them clueless, I rather you just give up the project to someone else who more close to the readers.

Taking over a novel without comfirming someone else dropped it is considered a pretty scumbag thing to do, and this is a pretty popular novel. Anyone who translates for a living would have probably loved to take over, but can’t because he continues. So now he is cutting into their living for a “hobby”, without providing the same release standards as them such as x chapters per week or actually communicating with us. I started reading it here and the quality is without question so I will finish it here, but if another translator were to pick it up now and finish it with good quality I would, without question, go and read it there instead.

Further on, whether a fan boy or not. Acquiring taste for Bagelsons translations, going to the other ones is like getting used to eat homemade food and the try calling a microwave dish on par.

Just want to express my thanks to Bagelson for his work but I’ll start reading the rest of the chapters at other site now.
I’ll come read your work once you release them but for now I must quench my curiosity first.

Seems like the novel is gonna end soon and I have been reading it here since chapter 1, so to abandon it now… I don’t want to haha but I am seriously craving moreeeee… what to do… I want to be loyal, but I wanna sate my urges…

Either way, thanks for all the great work over the last few years Bagel-kun, hope all is well. Any new projects in mind after finishing this novel? Tis hard for me to find a translator on such a good story who’s translations are so good.

  26. I had a reread and the recap. Tang san is one hela lucky bloke. Only he can get miracles happening over and over. Why is he the only reincarnated person???dont know, dont care, Lucky for him, he already mastered everything there was to in his previous life then gets reborn into a family of the most powerful tool spirit and a 100000 beast, Automatically having a domain and still gets to keep his name. Gets the greatest theoretical teacher that coincidentally has a friend who owns a school that cultivates monsters. He meets his teamates, who are only there so he can further glorify his monstrosity. He never loses a fight because hes tang san. Has a greater knowledge on poison than the poison douluo. Gets extremely rare external spirit bone and waifu. Always stops teamates from shining cause he thinks he’s a better fit. Gets a 10 thousand years fourth sr. Breaks record in slaughter city, gets another domain, enemy falls in love with him even though they haven’t spoken more than 2 sentences. He undergoes evolution to become a bishounin then Defeats a CS td. Goes back to defeat Qian Renxue then she falls in love with him. parents tragic story mirrors his teachers’ and the rejected ones( flender and uncle) never move on cause thats the only tragic love story that exists. His story becomes tragic too… But wait!!! theres hope due to some unforeseen circumstances that had happened to xiao wu before, that just happens to favour him. More spirit bones then off to the mysterious island that no one has returned from but don’t worry “grand hamster” said its best to go there even if he doesn’t have a clue what happens there. Inherits two godhoods cause… Duhh. he completes every godhood challenge in record time, absorbs spirit rings that should not be possible but its a miracle, revives xiao wu gets more spirit bones, then revives mother, restores father and has an happily ever after waaaaaaay before the end. Btw the spirit bones are exactly what he needs whilst his teamates, two of them, heir to the throne of an empire and one heir to the richest clan can only accept hands me down. They dont find a single one despite driving the entire orca race to extinction…defeats a god before becoming one. Becomes a god with the potential to become another…….so far so tang san.
Ive been reading this for more than 3yrs now and i don’t hate it, just the opposite. It introduced me to the world of wuxia but rereading it opened my eyes to a lot of things i dont look for in novels i read nowadays. I hope someone can do me one better
All for fun in the midst of a boring hiatus.

    • Huh?… You’re glad it’s taking long time translate the chapters?… Seems kinda stupid. It’s an honest fact that the releases are ridiculously slow, especially when you see other novels spitting out chapters daily or every other day. I’m also annoyed that we’re so close to the end but it seems to be moving even slower.

Plus, every decent translator has a good back stock of chapters already translated. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has already finished translating and is just milking it. Before you disagree, Yes.. Translators ABSOLUTELY do that kind of thing. Especially in this case seeing as how this is his only project. Only thing keeping people coming back to to his site.

Makes me wish another site would just pick up the rest of the novel and finish it up by the end of the week. Not disparaging the hard work he’s already done of course. Merely saying the pace this close to the end game was not a wise move.

There’s people that are literally trying to throw their money at him, but he refuses it. I’m pretty sure bagelson is from North America, and he is a uni student. This is an extremely busy time for them, and this is coming from a fellow American college student. Finals fucking suck, but end of the year parties are fucking amazing. I’m sure he has other things to do right now.

      • your comment about him holding onto the translated copies is bs why would he bother to do so when he does not make money from it, it is a pointless thing to even do and more so for you to say he does it as a hobby there is no real reason to horde it would be nice if he let us know if something was going on but that’s his decision, if you so upset you can go read the MTL version

  29. This is the first chinese novel I ever started to read. I started to read the Douluo Dalu manhua and when I caught up on that I started to read this. Probably started reading around when chapter 60 was out. Since then I have read many novels and I got to say Bagel has some of the best quality translations. This is one of my favorites still. I have started both Douluo Dalu 2 and 3, I didn’t think it would spoil too much, I mean you can assume a lot of thing they “spoil” in the 2nd and 3rd novels. I miss the weekly chapters though, it was nice. Since the chapters were so long once a week was quite a lot to translate so I Thank Bagel for that. I know translating is hard and taxing work, and I know bagel is probably very busy right now and that’s cool and I don’t mind him or any other tranlaters taking a break. I can always just pick up a new novel to fill the void. The only thing I’m annoyed about is that he didn’t say anything before he took a break. He knows he has die hard fans and I think it is a little disrespectful to all these people that he hasn’t said a word. Not saying that he has to translate, just saying a quick word from Bagel would help.

I also want to say to the people that want faster releases, there is a completed translation of this novel, its just the quality isn’t as good. I myself will be finishing on this site. I have too much nostalgia as this was the first novel i ever read, I want to end that experience the way i started.

Thank you BagelSan for the hard work till now, it is appreciated by many. Some quick update on how your doing would be dope though.

I just don’t understand how there are so many people out there blindly loyal to a guy that doesn’t care about his fan base. It’s baffaling that this novel hasn’t been finished yet. I totally agree with everyone else that he need to just step back and give this novel up so that another translator that actually has passion for the novels, and cares about his fan base and allow them to finish it. I mean we’re talking about 4 years of translating a less than 400 chapter novel. I don’t care what anyone else says, that’s unacceptable.

Bluesilver isn’t translating for profit, this is pure passion, nowadays he is one of the rarest kind of translators. Even after wuxiadream threatened him he keeps translating for so long, he needs more respects!
If someone else wants translate he can just go translate! Why asking for dropping when this is their own freedom to choose to translate or not? This isn’t as if they hold the right to translate!
As for novelupdates, they are just a gatherings of readers. They don’t have any rights to stop someone to translate or not. The only right they have about it is the fact they can ban a translation on their own site and nothing else. By the way, the three month rules on novelupdates is only about pickup requests and this is made to respects the translators!
This is because of leechers like you that some novels are dropped and never picked up again. Hope that you can think more before posting such comments, no wonder that other readers are angry against you.

      • How hard it is to translate? It’s been over a month with no new update. Don’t be foolish, or people won’t take anything you say seriously. Also, if he outright says he’ll drop ‘it, there’s a MUCH higher chance someone else will pick up the reins right away, and most likely finish it this month, as opposed to waiting ridiculously long with no end in site. Translators try not to step on eachother’s toes and start translating the same novel most of the time, He should do eveyone a favor and drop the translation..If it hurts his feelings, too bad. He’s the one who took up this job. If he can’t do it anymore, SAY he can’t do it anymore and let others pick it up.

Lastly, stop whining. You’re just as much of a leecher as anyone else here. Hypocrite, acting as if you actually contribute something while other’s don’t.

      • I mean, that is by far the stupidest comment I’ve ever read. My valid point remains, it’s been 4 years and less than 400 chapter have been translated. You can go to Wuxiaworld and read plenty of already finished novels. And the main point is that their translation quality for most of the novels that I keep up with are just as good as his. And this is an arbitrary number, but if I had to guess, id day that at least 80% of the novels on there have at least 1 chapter release a day. So pleas, continue in your ignorance about why it should take more than a month to translate a single chapter without notifying your fan base at all. Your incredible ignorance is hilarious to me. Please continue.

        • This is an old comment but I had a hard time understanding this person’s thought process so I decided to comment on it. Your point of spending 4 years to translate a less than 400 chapter novel as being “unacceptable” is both inaccurate and rude. You clearly did not even bother to put in effort to consider how much work each chapter takes, do the math, and objectively consider what the norm is. At this point in time the latest chapter out is 325 and the date of the posting was July 1st (making the overall translating time a bit over 3.5 years). Each chapter is the size of 2-4 normal chapters, and even saying 2 is a bit of a stretch here, it’s more like 3-4. Take this chapter for example, it is a little more than 4800 words and the latest chapter (325) as of now is a little more than 4900 words. Compare this to chapters of a more normal size like Desolate Era which have chapter sizes of around 1800 and DD3 (Legend of the Dragon King by the same author) which has chapter sizes of around 1200. The chapters are massive, even the translators for DD2 break it up into 3 chunks. The numbers are pretty obvious here, I shouldn’t need to spell this out for you. What does this mean? It means bagleson has basically translated 975 normal chapters (325 x 3) in a bit over 3.5 years. This is well within a chapter of normal length per week. For someone doing this for free, 1 chapter a week is actually pretty normal. And guess what, the folks at wuxiaworld get paid, as do many of the other translators who pump out many chapters a week. This is a hobby translation, not a full-time job. People really do have lives outside of translating, and not everyone mooches off their parents, people really do need to work to put food on the table. Saying that this is unacceptable and spouting bullshit statistics seems to show your a toxic trolling leach who, like many of the others, feel entitled to something they are not entitled to. Anyway, I feel like everything that needed to be said has already been said by everyone, it just didn’t sit right with me just leaving this imaginary “unacceptable” statistic hanging there.

  37. Question for translator community: If a translator abruptly stops translating, how long before another translator is allowed to pick it up? I mean if a translator wants to stop and just doesn’t tell anyone else there’s no way that the novel they’re translating will just be permanently on hold right?

Not going to argue or discuss with any anon’s out their but you really have no right to tell him to give it up or turn it over, sounds to me as if you are Q rep. wanting him to give over the translation to THAT site, which I very much doubt he will do until the end. At which point he can bargain a hella lot more on price for this amazing story, that he spent the time translating in whole.
I hope he holds out and gets paid for his work. I imagine they have been trying to poach, make him stop or sell the finished chapters because it would make them a lot of money on their site.

Or are you saying nothing so people will keep visiting your site and give you more clicks? 41. There is nothing to “drop” or “pick up” with this novel. The translation has already been finished on wuxiadream, and if you read the footnotes you will discover than an actual person finished it. Having read many translated works, I can say that bagelson is definitely within the top 5 in terms of most skilled translaters. Even looking beyond the fact he has no supporting team to produce the translations. While it is extremely aggravating and unprofessional when we go through long gaps without heading from him, it shouldn’t matter. If you want to know what happens, go to wuxiadream and read it. Then you will come to appreciate what a truly good translate can produce, no matter what his release rate is. To take it a step further, if you think his release rate is bad, go read Tales of Demons and Gods. The author, Mad Snail (who should be subject to untold suffering), realease 1 chapter every MONTH. The community began and grew from people like bagelson, and when everyone rips on him, they have to realize that he isn’t stoping you from knowing the ending. You can read it on wuxiadream, but I guarantee that there is a good chance you will want to reread it when it is eventually finished here.

Leave a quick message, is that so hard? You have people like Prozess who outright tells you not to expect regular releases ( plus he is an arrogant fuck but I love him none the less) and even he says when he is taking a break.A community is not a one way affair, the translator and readers need to communicate. I feel that anyone that moans despite not doing something basic has no right to moan about the complaints.

Of course there are ignorant fucks who still bitch and moan despite any notice from the translator but we can all agree to ignore those twits.

        • There’s a Chinese made cgi cartoon that is telling the story. It’s a bit of a combination of the web novel (timeline wise, how grandmaster became Tang San’s teacher, how the characters look) and the manhua (that fatty can control his fire with food and not just sex though sex is implied, that the expressions and emotions are over the top), but more so the web novel.
I like it. I can tell you that the characters with beast forms don’t actually transform into them, but rather simply take on the properties of their beasts (I think this is to save on animation budget), but the actual fight scenes are very fast paced and detailed. Which is good because outside of the fights, the show is a bit slow paced. Also, this may be a Chinese thing, but the commercials are built into the show. You can find it on YouTube or streaming websites, but I don’t think you’ll find any official place to watch it on tv unless you’re actually in China.
